HANOVER, N.H. - After coming back to force overtime, the Brown women's hockey team fell on the road at Dartmouth, 3-2, on Saturday at Thompson Arena. Sophomore Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) scored for the second-straight game and tied the contest with a power-play goal in the third, but Dartmouth's Celine Pietraszek would connect on the game winner 54 seconds into the extra period.
Neither team scored in the first period while Brown (0-4-0, 0-2-0 ECAC) split up both of its goals in the second and third periods. Dartmouth (1-3-0, 1-2-0 ECAC) recorded two tallies in the second in addition to the overtime game winner.
"We played really well in the second and third period and came back after being down twice," said head coach Carisa Zaban Wahlig. "The overtime loss was disappointing as we have to be able to respond to pressure situations and aren't doing that right now as a team."
The Big Green outshot the Bears, 16-8, in the scoreless opening stanza. Brown couldn't take advantage of a 5-on-3 in the frame, putting two shots on goal, and finished the first 0-for-2 on the power play.
Dartmouth's CC Bowlby broke the scoreless contest with her power-play goal at 3:10 of the second. Junior Darby Melia (Marshfield, Mass.) later knotted it up with a shot that bounced off a defender for her second of the year at 6:51.
The Big Green regained their lead at 15:42 of the second when Givanna Foglia found the back of the net. Each team had a power-play chance in the second with Dartmouth capitalizing on its lone opportunity. Shots again favored the Big Green at 17-9.
Maloney tied it up for the Bears at 1:48 of the third when she five holed Hannah Humphreys on the power play in front. Sophomore Tina Paolillo (East Haven, Conn.) picked up the assist on Maloney's second score of the season.
The Bears outshot the Big Green in the final period of regulation (13-8) and had the only power plays (3) of the frame.
Dartmouth took the win on the first shot of overtime as Pietraszek redirected a shot from the slot.
Sophomore Hayley Kliczko (Niles, Ill.) finished the evening with a season-high 39 saves while her counterpart Humphreys logged 28.
Dartmouth led in shots overall, 42-30 while each team registered a special teams score, with Brown 1-for-5 on the power play and the Big Green 1-for-1.
Brown will next conclude its five-game road slate on Tuesday, Nov. 5, traveling to Storrs, Conn. to take on UConn starting at 6:00 p.m.
