
McNeill Wins Coach of the Year, Raphino Takes Rookie of the Year as Brown Women’s Soccer Totals Six All-Ivy Selections

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kia McNeill won Ivy League Coach of the Year, and freshman Brittany Raphino earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year as Brown University women's soccer totaled six All-Ivy selections, including four First Team All-Ivy honorees, the Ivy League conference office announced on Wednesday.
McNeill unanimously gained Ivy League Coach of the Year honors while Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) gives the Bears back-to-back Ivy League Rookie of the Year selections for the first time in program history.
The Bears tallied four First Team All-Ivy honorees, including senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) who garnered First Team All-Ivy for the third straight year. Raphino and junior center back Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) unanimously earned First Team All-Ivy accolades. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) rounded out the quartet as the conference's top goalie. Brown garnered four or more First Team All-Ivy honorees for the first time since 1983.
Freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) collected Second Team All-Ivy honors, and junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) took home Honorable Mention All-Ivy accolades as all three of the Bears' starting forwards gained All-Ivy laurels.
KIA MCNEILL: IVY LEAGUE COACH OF THE YEAR
McNeill has guided the Bears to one of their best seasons in program history, giving Brown its first Ivy League Coach of the Year in women's soccer since the award began in 2014. She has led the Bears to their first Ivy League title and NCAA appearance since 1994.
In 2019, Brown has posted an overall record of 14-1-2, setting a program record for wins in a season. The Bears registered an undefeated mark in Ivy League play (6-0-1), finishing the year unbeaten in conference play for the ninth time in program history and for the first time since 1994. In the final NCAA RPI rankings used for selections, Brown stood at No. 10.
Brown has tallied an 11-0-0 record at home in 2019 with the 11 victories marking a program record for home wins in a season. The Bears have outscored opponents 23-2 in those contests. Dating back to the 2018 season, the Bears sport a 14-0-0 record in their last 14 home matches, outscoring opponents 35-3 during that stretch. The win streak matches the program record of 14 straight home wins from 1976-78.
BRITTANY RAPHINO: IVY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Raphino stands as the seventh Ivy League Rookie of the Year in program history and earned First Team All-Ivy honors unanimously. She led the team in goals (eight), points (19), and game-winning goals (three) on the year alongside three assists, ranking second in the Ivy League in goals, sixth in points, and tied for first in game-winning goals.
In Ivy play, Raphino tallied four goals, one assist, nine points, and two game-winning goals. She ranked first in the Ancient Eight in goals and second in points and game-winning goals. A two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week, she netted game winners in Ivy play against Columbia and Cornell.
Last year, Rebecca Rosen '22 (Port Washington, N.Y.) gained the 2018 Ivy League Rookie of the Year award.
FIRST TEAM ALL-IVY
Alongside Raphino – Cummings, Carchio, and Thompson gained First Team All-Ivy honors, giving Brown four First Team All-Ivy selections for the first time since 1983 when the Bears totaled five First Team selections. Brown gained First Team All-Ivy honorees at all four levels of the field – goalkeeper (Thompson), back (Cummings), midfield (Carchio), and forward (Raphino).
Now a three-time All-Ivy selection, Cummings has played a critical role in helping the Bears tally 12 shutouts thus far in 2019, tied for the most clean sheets in program history alongside the 1984 team. In the NCAA rankings, Brown stands second in goals allowed (six), third in GAA (0.34), and third in save percentage (.897).
A Second Team All-Ivy choice in both 2017 and 2018, Cummings has played all 1,590 minutes on the season, and over the course of her career, she has played 4,513 of a possible 4,532 minutes (99.6 percent), while aiding the Bears to 23 clean sheets. This season, she leads the team and ranks third in the Ivy League with seven assists.
Now a three-time First Team All-Ivy pick, Carchio posted nine points on three goals and three assists on the year despite missing seven games due to injury. She competed in all seven Ivy games, totaling seven points on two goals and three assists. In Ivy play, she led the league in assists and ranked fourth in points. Carchio netted the game-winning penalty kick in double overtime against Penn that secured the Bears' first Ivy League title since 1994.
A Senior CLASS Award Candidate for her accomplishments on and off the field, Carchio has totaled 49 career points on 16 goals and 17 assists in 56 career games played.
Thompson has distinguished herself as one of the top goalkeepers in the nation, ranking fourth in the NCAA in save percentage (.900) and seventh in GAA (0.37). For the season, she registered a 0.37 GAA, five goals allowed, .900 save percentage, 10-1-2 record, and eight shutouts. She paced the Ancient Eight in GAA, save percentage, and shutouts. Her eight shutouts rank fourth in a single season in Brown history.
A transfer student-athlete from West Virginia University, Thompson played all 699:30 minutes in Ivy play, while leading the conference in GAA (0.54), save percentage (.867), and shutouts (four). A two-time Ivy League Player of the Week, she notched an undefeated 6-0-1 mark in Ivy play with 26 saves (3.7 saves per game).
SECOND TEAM AND HONORABLE MENTION
Seelenfreund earned Second Team All-Ivy honors, forming a formidable rookie attacking duo with Raphino. Seelenfreund totaled 15 points on five goals and five assists on the year. She ranked second on the team in goals, assists, and points while standing seventh in the Ivy League in assists. She tied for the Ancient Eight lead with three game-winning goals.
A two-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week, Seelenfreund posted six points in Ivy play on two goals and two assists, including the game-winning goal against Princeton.

NCAA PLAY ON HORIZON
Brown is set to host Monmouth in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday, November 16 at 12:30 p.m. (ESPN3) at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bears are prepared to make their seventh appearance all-time in the NCAA Championship and first appearance since 1994. Brown earned a berth into the tournament after winning the Ivy League title – its 13th title all-time – for the first time since 1994.
