PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer freshman forward Ava Seelenfreund has earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this year after scoring a goal at Yale and helping the Bears win the Ivy title outright, the Ivy League conference office announced on Monday.
A native of Truckee, Calif., Seelenfreund scored in the Bears' 1-1 (2OT) draw at Yale, helping Brown secure the outright Ivy League title and an undefeated Ivy League season (6-0-1). Seelenfreund netted her fifth goal of her rookie season and now has 15 points on the year. She scored her second goal in Ivy play alongside her game-winning goal against Princeton on Oct. 12.
The Bears have now won 13 Ivy League titles all-time, tied for the most league crowns in conference history. Brown is set to make its seventh appearance all-time – and first appearance since 1994 – in the NCAA Championship. The selection show for the championship will take place today – Monday, Nov. 11 – at 4:30 p.m. on NCAA.com. First round games will be played on either Nov. 15, Nov. 16, or Nov. 17.
In the latest rankings, the Bears check in at No. 10 in the NCAA RPI Rankings, No. 10 in the Top Drawer Soccer national poll, and at No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. At the regional level, the Bears hold the top spot in the United Soccer Coaches East Region poll.
With a 14-1-2 overall record, Brown has established a program record for wins in a season. At 6-0-1 in Ivy League play, the Bears went undefeated in conference competition for the ninth time in program history and first time since 1994. Brown has posted an 11-0-0 record at home in 2019 with the 11 victories marking a program record for home wins in a season.
Seelenfreund's selection marks Brown's 10th Ivy League weekly award of the season. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) won Ivy League Player of the Week on Sept. 9 and Sept. 16, junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) took Ivy Player of the Week on Sept. 30 and Oct. 21, freshman forward Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) gained Ivy Rookie of the Week on Oct. 7 and Oct. 28, Seelenfreund previously won Ivy Rookie of the Week on Oct. 14, and senior midfielder Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and freshman back Rachyl Francisco (San Jose, Calif.) took Ivy Player and Rookie of the Week respectively on Nov. 4.
