
Women’s Hockey Begins ECAC Play at Harvard and Dartmouth

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will start ECAC play on the road with trips to Harvard and Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2, respectively. The game against the Crimson will begin at 3:30 p.m. while the contest in Hanover, N.H. will start at 3:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard opened the season last Friday at Dartmouth with a 7-4 win in a high scoring affair. The Crimson put up three goals in both the first and third period while allowing two in the second and third. Kristin Della Rovere recorded a hat trick while Dominique Petrie led the team in scoring with two goals and two assists. Six other players registered at least a point in the contest, including Ali Peper and Keely Moy who each had three assists. Lindsay Reed played the full 60 minutes in net and made 17 saves on 21 shots. Katey Stone enters her 25th season as the head coach of Harvard. The Crimson went 12-15-5 (9-9-4 ECAC) last season, reaching the ECAC Quarterfinals. The team had a strong end to the season, posting a 6-2-2 record in February.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth fell in its season opener against Harvard, 7-4, on Friday in Hanover, N.H. The Big Green also played on Tuesday, losing 4-2 at Vermont to move to 0-2-0 (0-1-0 ECAC) on the season. Catherine Trevors (2-2-4) and Gabby Billing (1-3-4) pace the team in scoring. Hannah Humphreys has both starts in goal and has a 5.04 goals-against average and a .828 save percentage. The Big Green have yet to score a power-play goal this season, and are 0-7 in their opportunities. Dartmouth went 5-21-3 (4-6-2 ECAC) in 2018-19.
BROWN TALKING POINTS
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Carisa Zaban Wahlig, the Bears look to continue making strides in the highly competitive ECAC in 2019-20. The Bears boasts nine underclassmen and an experienced junior and senior class that is comprised of 10 student-athletes. Sophomore Shay Maloney is the team's top returning point scorer from 2018-19, with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Named the team MVP following the season, Maloney led the Bears with three power-play goals and also ranked third in blocked shots (58). All three of Brown's netminders from last season return, with sophomore Hayley Kliczko and senior Calla Isaac starting 14 and 13 games, respectively.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Bears open the 2019-20 season with five-straight away games, starting with a non-conference series versus RIT on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. Brown will then open ECAC play on away ice, at Harvard (Friday, Nov. 1) and Dartmouth (Saturday, Nov. 2). The Bears close out the road swing with a non-conference contest at UConn on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Brown plays just four games at Meehan Auditorium in the first half of the season while the Bears will have nine home games in the second half of their campaign.
LAST YEAR VS. DARTMOUTH
Brown lost the first game of the series last season, 5-2, at Dartmouth on Feb. 1 before tying the Big Green, 1-1, on Feb. 23 in Providence. Sophomore Shay Maloney scored a power-play goal in the first outing and had the lone goal in the second meeting, also a power-play tally. Her score in game two came at 16:01 of the third period. Hayley Kliczko recorded 40 saves in the 1-1 tie.
LAST YEAR VS. HARVARD
The Bears went 0-1-1 against the Crimson last year, dropping the first contest, 4-0, in Cambridge, Mass. on Feb. 2, before recording a 3-3 tie at Meehan Auditorium on Feb. 22. In game two, Brown fought to the tie with Abby Niewchas '19 scoring the equalizer at 2:18 of the third. Sophomore Shay Maloney notched the Bears' second goal of the game (12:47, 2nd).
NEXT UP
The Bears will travel to UConn on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference game before hosting their first series of 2019-20, welcoming Rensselaer and Union to Meehan Auditorium on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. Friday's game with start at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's puck drop will be at 3:00 p.m.
