
Women’s Hockey Opens Season with Series at RIT

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will open the 2019-20 campaign with an away non-conference series versus RIT on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. Puck drop for game one on Friday will be at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's start time will be 2:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Tigers enter the series with a 0-5-1 record and a 0-2-0 mark in the CHA. RIT went 0-2-0 in its last action, a series versus Mercyhurst, falling 4-2 in game one on Oct. 18 and 6-0 in the finale on Oct. 19. Three players lead the team in scoring with three points - Emily Stemple (3-0-3), Abby Davis (1-2-3) and Taylor Baker (0-3-3) - with Stemple pacing the Tigers in goals and Baker leading in assists. Terra Lanteigne has played in all six games between the pipes and has a 3.38 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.
BROWN TALKING POINTS
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Carisa Zaban Wahlig, the Bears look to continue making strides in the highly competitive ECAC in 2019-20. The Bears boasts nine underclassmen and an experienced junior and senior class that is comprised of 10 student-athletes. Sophomore Shay Maloney is the team's top returning point scorer from 2018-19, with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Named the team MVP following the season, Maloney led the Bears with three power-play goals and also ranked third in blocked shots (58). All three of Brown's netminders from last season return, with sophomore Hayley Kliczko and senior Calla Isaac starting 14 and 13 games, respectively.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Bears open the 2019-20 season with five-straight away games, starting with a non-conference series versus RIT on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. Brown will then open ECAC play on away ice, at Harvard (Friday, Nov. 1) and Dartmouth (Saturday, Nov. 2). The Bears close out the road swing with a non-conference contest at UConn on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Brown plays just four games at Meehan Auditorium in the first half of the season while the Bears will have nine home games in the second half of their campaign.
2018-19 HIGHLIGHTS
The Bears defeated two ranked opponents last season for their first wins over a ranked opponent since the 2005-06 campaign. Brown defeated No. 9/10 Colgate, 4-3, on Nov. 2 and No. 6 Cornell, 4-3, on Nov. 3. It was the first sweep against a Colgate-Cornell weekend since 2004-05 when the Bears defeated Cornell, 4-1, on Nov. 5, 2004 and won against Colgate the following day, Nov. 6, 2-0, in Providence.
Three players received ECAC weekly or monthly honors. Senior Calla Isaac received two Goalie of the Week honors (Oct. 22, Nov. 5) while fellow netminder Hayley Kliczko was selected Goalie of the Week on Feb. 25 as a freshman. Rookie Lizzy Gross was named Rookie of the Month (Oct.) and Rookie of the Week (Oct. 22).
THE CAPTAINS
Senior Veronica Alois and junior Abby Nearis will suit up as the Bears' captains for the 2019-20 season while sophomore Shay Maloney will join the two as an assistant captain.
THE ECAC/IVY LEAGUE ON ESPN
