Men’s Soccer Hosts Ocean State Rival URI on Tuesday Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University men's soccer hosts Ocean State rival the University of Rhode Island in a non-conference match on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Jackson Goebel (Houston, Texas) scored a goal in the 14^th minute, and sophomore goalkeeper James Swomley (Newton, Mass.) made a career-high 14 saves as Brown earned a point in Ivy League play with a 1-1 (2OT) draw against Princeton on Saturday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Goebel netted his first goal of the season off an assist from senior Austin Lind (North Kingstown, R.I.) while Swomley made several key stops, including four saves in overtime.

BALANCED ATTACK
Brown has featured a balanced attack in 2019 with 13 different student-athletes registering points and seven different players tallying goals. Senior Daniel Schiller (Glenview, Ill.) leads the club with three points on a goal and an assist. Senior Jackson Goebel (Houston, Texas), sophomores Alex Mina (Aldie, Va.) and Malcolm Johnson (Wilmington, Del.), and freshmen Brady Van Epps (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Owen Schwartz (Mill Valley, Calif.), and Michael Chung (Medina, Wash.) have each scored one goal.

THE GOALKEEPERS
Sophomore James Swomley (Newton, Mass.) leads the goalkeepers with six starts, a 1.29 goals-against average, a .788 save percentage, and 26 total saves. Swomley ranks second in the Ivy League in both save percentage (.788) and saves per game (4.33). Junior Max Gross (Halifax, Nova Scotia) – three starts, .722 save percentage, and 1.67 GAA – and sophomore Max Waldau (Fort Myers, Fla.) – one start, .800 save percentage, and 2.00 GAA – have also seen action this season.

LAST TIME VS. THE RAMS
Matthew Chow '20 (Vancouver, British Columbia) scored the game winning-goal with 58 seconds left in overtime to lift Brown to a 1-0 win over Rhode Island in double overtime on Sept. 22, 2018 before a crowd of 2,110 fans at the URI Soccer Complex. Max Gross '21 (Halifax, Nova Scotia) made six saves in his first career shutout. Chow's goal snapped URI's six-game shutout streak and dealt the Rams their first loss of the 2018 season.

SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
The University of Rhode Island enters the weekend with a 7-3-2 overall record and a 4-1-0 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams sport a 7-1-2 record in their last 10 outings. Edvin Akselsen leads the team with 14 points on three goals and eight assists, Filippo Tamburini has totaled 13 points on a team-high five goals with three assists, and Stavros Zarokostas has tallied 12 points on four goals and four assists. Stefan Schmidt has played every minute in goal, recording a 1.10 GAA and .794 save percentage.
