
Men’s Hockey Heads to Capital Region to Face RPI, No. 16 Union

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will head to the New York Capital Region for a pair of league games this weekend as the Bears take on Rensselaer and No. 16 Union.
Matchup: Brown (6-9-3, 3-5-3 ECAC) at Rensselaer (7-15-0, 4-7-0 ECAC)

Brown split a pair of league games at home this past weekend. The Bears topped St. Lawrence on Friday behind a trio of goals from Tommy Marchin, Chris Berger and Trey Dodd. Berger (1-1-2) and defenseman Zach Giuttari (0-2-2) posted multiple-point efforts and Gavin Nieto stopped 22 shots in net. The Bears fell to No. 14 Clarkson to following night, 4-0, as Nieto made 18 saves.
Scouting Rensselaer
Rensselaer (7-15-0) has won three of its last four games and was idle over the weekend after the Mayor's Cup game against Union was postponed due to weather. Jacob Hayhurst leads the league with 20 assists and has a team-high 23 points, while Patrick Polino has seven goals. Linden Marshall has started 13 of 22 games in net, but Owen Savory has started the last two games, and leads the team with a .926 save percentage and a 2.73 goals-against average. RPI is averaging 2.05 goals per game, with 12.7 percent on the power play, and is limiting teams to 3.41 goals per game.

Brown and Rensselaer have met 101 times, dating back to a 5-0 Brown win during the 1951-52 season. The Engineers currently lead the all-time series, 63-29-9. Brown will look to capture its fifth straight win over RPI after the Bears won the first meeting of the season, 2-1, in Providence.

No. 16 Union will play its first game in nearly two weeks this weekend when the Dutchmen host Yale on Friday before playing Brown the following night. Union owns the third-best scoring offense in the league at 3.19 goals per game. Cole Maier leads the team in both assists (14) and points (20), while Ryan Walker has a team high eight goals, one of eight players with five or more goals. Darion Hanson and Jake Kupsky have split time in net. Hanson leads the duo with a 2.54 GAA and a .920 save percentage. Union is checking in at 19 percent on the power play.

Brown and Union will play for the third time this season on Saturday in the 57th all-time meeting between the two conference foes, dating back to a 3-2 Union victory on December 30, 1989. The Bears hold a 24-20-13 series advantage and a 1-1-0 advantage this season after they topped the Dutchmen, 6-3, in non-conference action to claim the Three Rivers Classic in Pittsburgh.
