PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team defeated Bryant, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center. After getting swept in the doubles round, the Bears bounced back and won five out of the six singles matches en route to their victory.
"Hats off to Bryant, they came in and brought a ton of intensity to the doubles and played very well," said head coach Tim Gray. "I'm really happy that we didn't panic in the singles and stuck with our game plan and showed tremendous grit to get the win."
Brown took its first and third doubles matches to extra sets but Bryant was able to capture both matches and add a second doubles win to clinch the point.
Bryant would capture the first singles match as No. 81 Matt Kuhar posted a 6-3, 6-0 win, but it would be the last match win for the Bulldogs as the Bears would rattle off five-straight victories to take the match.
Junior Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) got the ball rolling with a 6-1, 6-4 win in fourth singles and was followed by sophomore Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) in second singles (6-1, 1-6, 6-2) to tie the match, 2-2. Freshman Roger Chou (Austin, Texas) pulled Brown ahead for good with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 win in the third spot and senior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) (6-1, 6-1, fifth) and freshman Robert Siniakowicz (West Windsor, N.J.) (6-0, 6-2, sixth) add the other victories.
The Bears next travel to Virginia to take on Virginia Tech on Friday, Feb. 8 at 1:00 p.m. and William & Mary on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 11:00 a.m.
