
Men’s Soccer Set to Host Columbia in League Opener Saturday Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a pair of non-conference wins this past week, the Brown men's soccer team will host Columbia on Saturday night (7 PM) in the Ivy League opener for both teams at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

THE IVY LEAGUE ON ESPN

LAST TIME OUT
Brown earned a pair of close wins over Rhode Island, 1-0, and Boston University, 2-1, this past week. Matthew Chow scored the game winner over URI with 58 seconds left in double overtime, handing the Rams their first loss and goal against this season. Max Gross made six saves for his first career shutout. Chow also scored against BU before rookie Derek Waleffe notched the winner in the 83rd minute. Maxwell Waldau had three saves in his debut.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA
Columbia (3-2-1) finished second in the Ivy League last season and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament. As a team, the Lions are averaging 1.16 goals per game, third in the league. Kynan Rocks leads the team with three goals and six points, while four other players have three points apiece. Dylan Castanheira has played every minute of every game, and heads into the weekend with a 0.63 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage. Columbia has played two ranked opponents this season, including a win at No. 11 Butler, and will play eight of its first nine games on the road.

Columbia defeated the Bears, 3-0, in last year's Ivy opener in New York. It was Columbia's first win over the Bears since the 2011 season.

Daniel Schiller is ranked fourth in the Ivy League with eight points and 1.14 points per game. He is also ranked third in the league with three goals.
Matthew Chow is ranked third in shots, averaging 2.40 shots per game.
CHOW NAMED IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matthew Chow was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after scoring the OT game winner against Rhode Island last Saturday. The midfielder scored from the end line on a pass from Zac Anderson for his first tally of the season. Brown handed the Rams their first loss of the season and snapped the team's six-game shutout streak.
