Men’s Crew Wins Opening Race at Henley Royal Regatta

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England – The Brown men's crew opened the 2018 Henley Royal Regatta with a win in the Temple Challenge Cup to kick off the prestigious five-day event on Wednesday morning.

Brown started the first day of racing with a convincing victory over the University of West of England, winning by four lengths in a time of 6.36. Brown is one of 55 total entries in the Temple Challenge Cup, an event made up of eights from colleges and schools.

The Bears will take on Eton College on Thursday morning at 9:35 AM GMT (4:35 AM EST).

Brown is competing at Henley for the second straight year and the third time in the last five years. The Bears reached the semifinals of the Ladies' Challenge Cup last summer. Brown made its first trip to Henley in 1966 and has captured the Ladies' Challenge Plate in 1984, 1993, 2000 and 2009. Bruno also claimed the Thames Challenge Cup in 1994.
