
Men’s Hockey to Face No. 10 Providence, Army at Ledyard Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will kick off the second part of the season with a pair of games at the Dartmouth Ledyard Classic, taking on No. 10 Providence College (Dec. 29) and Army West Point (Dec. 30) in Hanover, New Hampshire. Both games will start at 4 PM on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Brown closed out the first semester with a 1-0-2 record over its last three games, including a three-point conference weekend, as the Bears tied Union and defeated Rensselaer at home. Rookie Justin Jallen scored in both games and notched the game winner against RPI, while defenseman Anea Ferrario had a pair of assists against Union. Luke Kania made 28 saves in the draw against Union before Gavin Nieto had 21 stops in the win over the Engineers. Brown was 5-for-5 on the penalty kill in the two-game weekend series.
Scouting Providence
Providence is unbeaten over its last four games and is 1-1 in neutral site games this season. Josh Wilkins leads the Friars in assists (13) and points (18), while Kasper Björkqvist has eight goals, including four on the power play. Hayden Hawkey (9-4-2) is ranked eighth in the nation in goals-against average (1.86) and has a .916 save percentage. Providence owns the best defense in Hockey East, limiting teams to 1.88 goals per game, and is ranked second in the league on the power play at 22.2 percent. The Friars are averaging 3.56 goals per game.
Brown vs. Providence All-Time
Brown and Providence, Rhode Island's only Division I hockey teams, have met 99 times, with PC leading the all-time series, 50-46-3. On March 1, 1927, Brown defeated the Friars, 4-1, at the Rhode Island Auditorium in the first meeting between Brown and Providence. This will be the first of two meetings against PC this season, playing the Friars twice in one season for the first time since the 2015-16 season, when the two teams split a home-and-home series. Brown will also host PC on Jan. 15 for the 33rd annual Mayor's Cup.

Army West Point (8-8-1) split a pair of games against Canisius to wrap up the first half of the season. The Black Knights will play Dartmouth on Saturday before facing off against Brown on Sunday. Senior defenseman Dalton MacAfee leads the team in assists (14) and points (17), while Dominic Franco is tied for second in Atlantic Hockey with nine goals, all on the power play. Jared Dempsey (3-6-0) has started the last seven games in net and enters the weekend with a 3.13 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage. West Point owns the top power play unit in Atlantic Hockey at 29.3 percent and is also averaging 2.88 goals per game.
