Indianapolis, IN - Paul Jorgensen scored a game high 19 points to lead Butler to a 70-55 win over Brown at Hinkle Fieldhouse and extend the Bulldogs' consecutive non-league home court winning streak to 47 games.
The Bulldogs improve to 6-2 on the season, while Brown falls to 6-4.
Brown was paced by sophomore Desmond Cambridge (Nashville, TN), who had 15 points and four rebounds, but was able to convert just 5-of-16 field goals.
Senior Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) also scored in double figures for Brown with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc. Junior Josh Howard (Charlotte, NC) chipped in with nine points, connecting on 4-of-6 field goals.
Sophomore Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA), the Ivy league's leading rebounder, pulled down a game high 10 rebounds to help Brown to a 35-33 rebounding advantage over the Bulldogs. He finished with eight points.
When the Bears look back at the game film, they'll see open shots throughout the game that weren't converted. After shooting just 21-percent (6-of-28) in the opening 20 minutes with long range shots, Brown settled down to shoot 52-percent (14-of-27) from the field in the second half.
"Butler made it hard on us to get to the paint, especially in the first half, but we hurt ourselves with a lack of execution of our offense," said Bears' head coach Mike Martin. "When we ran some better offense in the second half we were able to score inside."
Jorgensen's 19 points came on 7-of-15 shooting, while grabbing five rebounds. Kamir Baldwin and Henry Baddley tossed in 12 points each for the Bulldogs.
The ice cold Bears fell behind 25-8 at the outset of the game, shooting 12-percent (2-16) from the field in the opening 12 minutes.
While the Bears shot the ball better in the final eight minutes, they fell behind 36-17 at intermission. Cambridge had six points at the half to pace the Bears.
Brown settled down in the second half with ball-movement and improved shooting, cutting Butler's lead to 14 points, 51-37, on a layup by freshman David Mitchell (Roxbury, MA) with 10:40 remaining.
A Cambridge free throws with 37 seconds left enabled the Bears to trail, 67-53.
Brown returns home on Saturday, December 8 to close out the semester against Stony Brook. Tip-off at the Pizzitola Sports Center is 2:00 pm. Following the game, the Bears will take a 14-day break for final exams.
