TROY, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by RPI, 1-0, on Friday night at Houston Field House. The lone goal of the game came on the power play for the Engineers in the second period.
"I think we came out flat tonight and took too long to get our legs going," said head coach Carisa Wahlig. "We have to find a way to play hard on the road and be ready from the drop of the puck."
The two teams skated through a scoreless first period with RPI (3-5-2, 1-2-0 ECAC) holding a 6-4 edge in shots. Brown (5-3-0, 2-3-0 ECAC) was perfect on the penalty kill in the frame, fighting off both of its infractions.
After play continued to be back-and-forth, the Engineers scored the contest's only goal at 12:24 of the second when Lauren Severson registered a power-play goal. RPI again led in shots at 10-7 for the stanza.
Freshman Hayley Kliczko (Niles, Ill.) kept the Engineers off the board in the third with nine saves, bringing her total to 24 on the night. The Bears had chances to tie the game in the final period with three power-play opportunities, including one at 15:07 but came up empty. Brown pulled Kliczko at 19:36 but could not produce a game-tying score.
Overall, Brown was 4-for-5 on the penalty kill while RPI was 3-for-3. Kira Bombay finished with 18 save in the opposing net.
Senior Abby Niewchas (Cochrane, Alberta) generated a team-high four shots in the game while both junior Sena Hanson (New Brighton, Minn.) and freshman Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) recorded three apiece.
Brown will close out the weekend at Union tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 10, in a 3:00 p.m. game on ESPN+.
Video of all Brown women's hockey home contests and all ECAC games, home and away, will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
