PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four different players scored and Gavin Nieto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) made 31 saves as the Brown men's hockey team downed Dartmouth, 4-2, in Friday's ECAC and Ivy League contest at Meehan Auditorium.

Brown (1-3-1, 1-2-1 ECAC) went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill and earned its first league win of the season. Dartmouth, tied for the top scoring offense in the ECAC, dropped to 2-2-0, 2-2-0.

"I thought it was a good game and we've been playing pretty good hockey, but it's nice to be rewarded and see the result through their work ethic and tenacity," said Brown head coach Brendan Whittet. "It was a good step in the right direction and now we have to focus for a good Harvard team tomorrow."

Brady Schoo (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Chris Berger (Buffalo, N.Y.), Zach Giuttari (Warwick, R.I.) and Max Gottlieb (Old Bridge, N.J.) all scored for the Bears, while ten different players posted at least one point.

Nieto recorded his third straight game with at least 30 saves. Adrian Clark had 28 saves for the Big Green.

Brown killed two penalties in the opening eight minutes, and then settled in offensively for the rest of the stanza, as the Bears outshot the Big Green, 11-5, in the period.

Schoo put the Bears on the board at 12:52 with his second goal of the season. Alex Brink (Hamilton, N.Y.) controlled the puck behind the Dartmouth net and eventually found Schoo at the blue line, where the defenseman sent a shot through traffic and into the back of the net. Joe Maguire (Dix Hills, N.Y.) also picked up an assist.

Berger gave Brown a two-goal lead just 2:44 into the second period. Tommy Marchin (Algonac, Mich.) had his shot stopped by Clark, but Berger was waiting in the slot and cleaned up the rebound for his first goal of the season. Joachim Weberg (Oslo, Norway) earned a secondary assist.

Dartmouth bounced right back less than a minute later when Will Graber took advantage of a turnover on the Brown end to cut the lead back to one, 2-1. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play to close out the period.

Brown extended its lead midway through the third period when Giuttari notched his first goal of the season. After Tristan Crozier (Calgary, Alberta) won a faceoff in the offensive zone, Giuttari corralled a pass from Tony Stillwell (Green Bay, Wis.) at the blue line and blasted a shot past Clark.

Dartmouth made it interesting down the stretch, as Quin Foreman scored with four minutes remaining to pull within one, but Gottlieb added an empty-net goal at 18:38 to seal the win.

"We're doing a better job on knowing when to press and when to be aggressive," said Whittet on the penalty kill. "We're taking away options and doing a lot of little things that lead to success on the kill. We're working very hard and getting good goaltending."

Brown will host Harvard tomorrow night at 7 PM.
