PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Abby Carchio tallied two goals and an assist, freshman Claire Myers posted a goal and two assists, and Brown University women's soccer cruised past Delaware State University, 6-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field in its non-conference finale.
The Bears (7-8-1) received goals from five different student-athletes with a total of seven players registering points in the shutout against the visiting Hornets (3-14-2).
"We were able to get a lot of players some minutes and get some confidence out there on the field," Brown head coach Kia McNeill said. "A lot of different players scored goals, got assists, and got points for our team. All-in-all it was a good performance for everybody."
Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) recorded five points for the second straight home game after notching two goals and an assist in the team's 3-1 win over Cornell on Oct. 21. She now has 24 points on the season on nine goals and six assists.
Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) tallied a season-high four points and distributed two assists in a game for the second time this year. She recorded her second game-winning goal of the season.
Sophomore Star White (Norfolk, Va.) and freshman Malina Yago (Culver City, Calif.) each compiled three points on a goal and an assist apiece. White netted her fifth goal of the season while Yago posted her first career goal.
Freshman Maesyn G'Bye (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) scored her first career goal, freshman Sara Bermudez (South San Francisco, Calif.) tallied her first collegiate points on two assists, and senior Megan Grant (Carlsbad, Calif.) notched her first assist of the year.
With their six goals on the day, the Bears now have 26 goals on the season, marking their highest goal total since netting 37 goals in 2006. The Bears earned a 6-0 victory for the first time since defeating Buffalo, 6-0, on Sept. 3, 2006.
Senior goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) made two saves in her third shutout of the season. She now has 22 career shutouts, 31 career wins, and 256 career saves.
Brown's starting back line of sophomores Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and Cameron Brown (Portsmouth, Va.), and freshman Lauren Hinton (Middletown, Conn.) aided in the Bears' fourth clean sheet as a team this season.
Myers opened the game's scoring in the 19th minute collecting a through ball from White and slotting a shot past the goalkeeper at the 18:18 mark.
Yago doubled Brown's lead to 2-0 just over two minutes later, netting her first collegiate goal in the 21st minute. After Myers sent in a cross from the right side, Yago finished at 20:28.
The Bears gained a 3-0 advantage in the 25th minute as G'Bye scored her first career goal. Carchio sent a free kick into the penalty area before G'Bye knocked a shot off the left post and into the net at 24:56.
Carchio gave the hosts a 4-0 lead at halftime, notching her first goal of the game in the 40th minute. Bermudez played a ball to Yago who slipped a pass through to Carchio for a breakaway goal at 39:48.
In the second half, Carchio netted her second goal of the contest, curving a shot into the goal from outside the box in the 51st minute. Bermudez and Myers combined for assists on the play.
