HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Senior Angelina Vargas scored a pair of goals, Kia McNeill – the Messing Family Head Coach for Brown Varsity Women's Soccer – earned her 100^th career win, and Brown University women's soccer beat Hofstra University, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Captains Field in the Bears' final non-league road match of the year.

Remaining unbeaten over their last four matches (3-0-1), the Bears (5-2-1) equalized in the ninth minute and went ahead in the 49^th minute behind Vargas' brace as the visitors overcame an early goal from the host Pride (1-5-1) in the second minute.

McNeill – currently in the midst of her 10^th competitive season at Brown – improved to 100-37-24 during her time with the Bears.

"It's incredible to reach the 100-win milestone," McNeill said. "It's hard to win games so to get to 100 is an honor and incredibly humbling. I've had the privilege of coaching some really special teams and players here at Brown, and this milestone is a reminder of all those who have been along for a part of this 100-win journey. I wouldn't have gotten here without having an incredible coaching staff around me – both my present coaching staff and the coaches who have worked with me over the years – so I want to extend a huge thank you to them because this is also a reflection of them and their hard work. Now it's time to go for 100 more!"

Vargas posted her first career brace behind her fourth and fifth goals of the season. She scored her third game-winning goal of the year, has tallied three goals over her last two games, and netted the seventh and eighth goals of her career.

Senior Joy Okonye registered an assist – her third of the season and the 18^th of her career. With 18 career assists, she moved into a tie for seventh place on Brown's career assist list alongside Jill Mansfield '07 and Cameron Tuttle '84.

For the match, Brown led in shots (22-8), shots on goal (6-3), and corner kicks (5-4). Vargas paced the Bears with six shots and three shots on goal while Okonye, senior Corine Gregory, junior Ayla Sahin, and sophomore Jael-Marie Guy each tallied three shots.

All four members of the Bears' back line – senior Claire Silverman and juniors Kyra Treanor, Chesney Robinson, and Brooke Birtwistle – all played the full 90 minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Addison Etter made two saves in the win, improving to 3-1-1 on the season.

Hofstra opened the game's scoring in the second minute as the Pride's Amy Meadows sent a shot into the bottom right side of the goal.

The Bears equalized in the ninth minute as Vargas placed a shot into the bottom left side of the goal off her left foot with an assist from Okonye.

Brown pressured the Pride as the midway point of the first half approached beginning with a driven shot just over the bar from Okonye. The Bears earned three corners across the 20^th and 21^st minutes, leading to a header from Birtwistle that ricocheted off the crossbar following a short corner.

In the first half, the Bears led in shots (8-3) and corner kicks (3-2).

Vargas put the Bears in front in the 49^th minute. After Birtwistle played a long ball up the field, Vargas beat the keeper to a ball outside the penalty area and sent a shot into the open goal.

Inside of the final half hour, Okonye sent a shot just wide left of the target in the 61^st minute, Etter made a point-blank save on a shot in the 69^th minute, and Silverman fired a shot on frame that was parried off the crossbar in the 76^th minute as part of a final push from the Bears over the last quarter hour.

Next, Brown hosts Providence College in its non-league finale on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
