KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Angelina Vargas scored the game's opening goal in the 12^th minute, but the Rams netted an equalizer in the 68^th minute as Brown University women's soccer played the University of Rhode Island to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at the URI Soccer Complex.

The Bears (4-2-1) remained undefeated (4-0-1) in games played in the state of Rhode Island – alongside a 4-0-0 record at home – and moved its unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1) with the tie against the host Rams (2-3-3).

Vargas scored her third goal of the year and the sixth goal of her career while junior Kyra Treanor posted her second assist of the season and the third assist of her career.

For the match, Brown led in shots (17-3), shots on goal (10-2), and corner kicks (10-4).

Senior Joy Okonye tallied game highs in shots (six) and shots on goal (four), Vargas registered four shots and three shots on goal, and sophomore Jael-Marie Guy added four shots and two shots on goal.

Brown's back four of Treanor, senior Claire Silverman, junior Chesney Robinson, and junior Brooke Birtwistle all played the full 90 minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Addison Etter made one save in the draw.

With the Bears pressuring the Rams in the contest's early moments, Vargas opened the game's scoring in the 12^th minute. After Treanor beat her defender on the right side, she played a ball inside the six-yard box where a waiting Vargas drove a shot into the back of the net.

Brown nearly extended its lead on multiple occasions in the first half, including shots on goal from Vargas in the 14^th minute, Okonye in the 25^th minute, senior Corine Gregory in the 26^th minute, and Guy in the 33^rd minute.

In the first half, the Bears held advantages in shots (11-1), shots on goal (7-1), and corner kicks (5-2). In the opening 45 minutes, Vargas paced the team with four shots and three shots on goal while Okonye tallied three shots and two shots on goal.

The Rams tied the score at 1-1 in the 68^th minute as Megan Steinbach scored from inside the penalty area before the hosts sent a shot off the crossbar in the 83^rd minute.

Brown generated scoring opportunities in the match's final minutes, earning corner kicks in the 87^th and 88^th minutes. Guy then drove a shot on target in the 90^th minute that required a final save.

Next, Brown plays at Hofstra on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m. (FloCollege) in its final non-league road game of the season.
