Women's Soccer Hosts Penn Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for Senior Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer hosts the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Stevenson-Pincince Field as the Bears celebrate Senior Day for the Class of 2018 in their final regular season appearance at home this fall.

IVY LEAGUE NETWORK
Video of all home contests and all Ivy League games, home and away, will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network. Fans can subscribe and view games by purchasing yearly, monthly, or daily packages.
SENIOR DAY
Prior to kickoff of Saturday's match, the Bears will honor the five members of their senior class – Sarah Cobb (North Tustin, Calif.), Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Katy Schmidt (Corvallis, Ore.), Rylee Shumway (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.). Entering Saturday's contest, the Class of 2018 has helped Brown post a 32-21-10 overall record over the last four years.
HALLOWEEN FUN
Any child wearing a Halloween costume to Saturday's game will receive a discounted ticket for $5 while the first 200 students at the game will receive free pizza.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Brown holds a 14-12-4 lead in the all-time series with Penn. The Quakers carry a 5-1-2 mark against the Bears in the last eight meetings between the two clubs. In the last meeting between the two teams at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Oct. 31, 2015, Carly Gould '17 (Hampton Falls, N.H.) scored on a penalty kick in the 21st minute for the game-winning goal.
QUADRUPLE DOUBLE
Four Brown women's soccer student-athletes have tallied 10 or more points this season, giving the Bears a quartet of double-figure scorers for the first time since 2006. This fall, senior Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.), freshman Star White (Norfolk, Va.), and juniors Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Jennifer Caruso (Brockton, Mass.) have posted 19, 14, 14, and 10 points respectively. In 2006, Kathryn Moos '07 led the team with 36 points on 15 goals and six assists.
IVY COVERED WINS
Brown has earned a trio of 1-0 shutout victories in Ivy League play this season. The Bears opened conference play with a 1-0 win over Dartmouth in overtime on Sept. 24 as freshman forward Star White (Norfolk, Va.) netted the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute. Junior forward Jennifer Caruso (Brockton, Mass.) scored in the 54th minute to lead Brown to a 1-0 win over Harvard on Oct. 14, giving the Bears their first victory over the Crimson since 2010. In the team's 1-0 win at Cornell on Oct. 21, junior midfielder Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute.
DOUBLE-DIGIT VICTORIES
Brown has tallied 10 victories so far this season, giving the Bears their first 10-win campaign since 2013. In the twenty-first century, Brown has now posted double-figure wins in each of five seasons – 2017 (10-4-0), 2013 (10-6-1), 2011 (10-5-2), 2003 (10-4-2), and 2000 (13-4-0).
CORNER KICKS
Entering the week, Brown ranks sixth in the NCAA in corner kicks per game (7.57). The Bears have registered double-figure corner kicks in each of four matches this season. Brown also stands among national leaders in assists per game (19th, 2.14), points per game (50th, 5.43), shots per game (47th, 16.21), and shots on goal per game (47th, 7.57).
WALDMAN PUSHES CONFERENCE PACE
Senior forward Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.) ranks fourth in the Ivy League in points (19), sixth in goals (seven), third in assists (five), and first in game-winning goals (four). In the NCAA rankings, she stands 28th in game-winning goals (four). She scored the game-winnining goals in wins at Massachusetts (Sept. 14) and vs. Sacred Heart (Sept. 20) and posted two assists in a 2-0 win over CCSU (Sept. 17). Waldman netted her first career hat trick in a 4-0 win at Hartford on Aug. 31. She recorded her second game-winning goal of the season in a 2-1 win against Lafayette on Sept. 10. She netted a goal in the Bears' 3-2 (2OT) win at Rhode Island on Aug. 27 and scored in back-to-back games for the first time in her career with her hat trick against the Hawks in her next outing. Waldman has tallied seven goals and 19 points this season after posting five goals and 18 points over her first three seasons combined.
SHINING STAR
Freshman forward Star White (Norfolk, Va.) ranks seventh in the Ivy League and first among first-year student-athletes with 14 points. She leads the conference with six assists and has added four goals. She scored the overtime, game-winning goal in her Ivy debut vs. Dartmouth (Sept. 24) after netting her first career game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over CCSU (Sept. 17). She made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, notching a goal and an assist in Brown's 2-1 (OT) victory over Maine. She brought new life to the Bears when she found the equalizer in the 82nd minute prior to assisting on the golden goal in the 98th minute. She scored her second collegiate goal vs. Providence on Sept. 7 and tallied one assist apiece against Hartford (Aug. 31), Lafayette (Sept. 10), Massachusetts (Sept. 14), Sacred Heart (Sept. 20), and Princeton (Oct. 7).
STORY TIME
Junior midfielder Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) ranks seventh in the Ivy League with 14 points and eighth in the conference in both goals (five) and assists (four). Story converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to lift Brown to a 1-0 win at Cornell (Oct. 21). She notched the assist on the game winner vs. Dartmouth (Sept. 24) and posted a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over CCSU (Sept. 17). She scored twice in the Bears' win over Rhode Island on Aug. 27, driving the game-winning penalty kick into the back of the net in the 104th minute, prior to netting a first-half goal in a 2-1 win vs. Lafayette on Sept. 10. Against the Rams, she scored two goals in a game for the second time in her career after accomplishing the feat in a 3-2 (2OT) win at Cornell on October 24, 2015.
CARUSO COMPILES POINTS
Junior forward Jennifer Caruso (Brockton, Mass.) ranks eighth in the Ivy League with four assists on the year. She scored her first career game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Harvard on Oct. 14. Caruso netted a goal in the 10th minute against Princeton (Oct. 7) for her second career goal against the Tigers. She scored the second goal of her career at Vermont on Sept. 2, netting an equalizer in the 72nd minute. Caruso posted her first career multi-assist game with two helpers in a 4-0 win at Hartford on Aug. 31. She added an assist in a 2-1 win over Lafayette on Sept. 10 and in a 3-2 (2OT) victory over Rhode Island on Aug. 27. She has posted 10 points this year after recording four points over her first two seasons.
CARCHIO IN THE MIDFIELD
Sophomore midfielder Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) has tallied seven points on two goals and three assists on the season. Carchio totaled a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart (Sept. 20). She scored her first goal of the year in a 4-0 win at Hartford on Aug. 31. Carchio tallied one assist apiece at Vermont on Sept. 2 and in a 2-1 win over Lafayette on Sept. 10. She has seven points in 2017 after compiling five points as a rookie.
ETZEL AS THE BACKSTOP
Junior goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) has tallied 10 wins thus far this season and now has 26 career wins, putting her in fourth place on Brown's career wins list. She has posted four shutouts this year and has 18 career clean sheets – third best at Brown all-time. For her career, she has 201 saves, making her the 10th goalie in program history with 200 or more saves. This fall, Etzel has recorded a 0.98 GAA and .800 save percentage and has now started 45 of Brown's last 46 games. Etzel returns in goal after earning 2016 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year honors. As a sophomore, she ranked second in the NCAA in save percentage (0.921), fourth in GAA (0.361), and 13th in shutouts (10) at the end of the regular season.
BONUS SOCCER
Brown has played in five overtime matches this season, notching a 3-2-0 record in those contests. The three overtime wins match a program record set in 2008. The Bears have now notched two or more overtime wins in a season eight times. The club won back-to-back games in overtime to open a season for the first time in program history. The team has tallied consecutive overtime wins in two other seasons – 1993 and 2008.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Penn enters Saturday's contest with a 5-6-3 overall record and a 3-1-1 Ivy League mark. With 10 points, Penn ranks third in the Ivy League standings, just one point ahead of the fourth-place Bears. In their last two outings, Penn has defeated Dartmouth (1-0, OT) and Yale (3-1). Erica Higa leads the team with seven points on three goals and one assist while goalkeeper Kitty Qu paces the conference with a .889 save percentage.
CUMMINGS TAKES IVY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brown freshman defender Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) won Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors after the Bears shutout Harvard, 1-0, on Oct. 14, giving the Bears their first victory over the Crimson since 2010. The starting center back in the team's 3-5-2 formation, she has played every minute this season.
STAR POWER
Freshman forward Star White gained Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 25 after scoring the overtime, game-winning goal in the Bears' Ivy opener vs. Dartmouth on Sept. 24. White recorded three points on a goal and an assist, including the game-winning goal vs. Dartmouth, to help lead Brown to a 2-0 week. In the 92nd minute against the Big Green, White netted her second game winner of the year to lift Brown to a 1-0 win. She notched an assist in a 2-1 win over Sacred Heart on Sept. 20.
WALDMAN WINS IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.) won Ivy League Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 18. She tallied four points on a goal and two assists to help lead Brown to a 2-0 week. She scored the game-winning goal on her sixth goal of the year in a 2-0 win over Massachusetts on Sept. 14. She posted two assists – her third career two-assist game – in a 2-1 win over CCSU on Sept. 17.
KANTE EARNS IVY LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman forward Zeinab Kante (Dallas, Texas) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Aug. 28 after scoring the game-winning goal in Brown's 2-1 overtime win against Maine on Aug. 25. In her collegiate debut, Kante recorded the game winner alongside an assist in the Bears' season-opening victory.
THE CAPTAINS
Senior center back Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and junior goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) will serve Brown as captains this fall. Lehan will act as a captain for the Bears for the second straight season.
