SERIES HISTORIES
Brown and Sacred Heart have met 13 times with the Bears holding an 8-3-2 edge in the all-time series. The Bears took a 3-2 overtime decision last season with Erin Katz '16 netting a hat trick for Brown.
Dartmouth and Brown have collided on the pitch 41 times with the Big Green carrying a slight 20-18-3 lead in the all-time ledger. The two sides battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw last season in the Ivy opener for both sides. The two squads have opened Ancient Eight play against one another in each season beginning in 2008.
ETZEL AMONG NCAA'S BEST
Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) ranks in the top four in the NCAA in a trio of categories – save percentage (second, 0.964), shutouts (fourth, six), and goals-against average (fourth, 0.134). She has posted six shutouts in seven matches this season and has allowed just one goal in 670 minutes. Etzel leads the Ivy League in goals allowed, goals-against average, save percentage, and shutouts. She made a career-high nine saves in Brown's 2-0 (2OT) draw at Buffalo and turned aside a penalty kick in the team's 1-0 win at Lafayette.
Her six shutouts this year rank in a tie for sixth on Brown's single-season list, and her 10 career clean sheets rank in a tie for fifth in the Bears' career record book. Last season, she ranked second in the Ivy League in both total saves (75) and save percentage (83.3 percent), finishing the year with four shutouts and a 0.99 goals-against average.
GOULD CONTINUES TO PACE THE ATTACK
Senior Carly Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.) picked up where she left off last season, netting the Bears' first goal of 2016 against Rhode Island. She scored the game-winning goal in Brown's 1-0 win at Lafayette, and dating back to last fall, she has scored eight goals in her last 11 matches played. A two-time All-Ivy selection, Gould has played in 55 games with 52 starts and 13 goals in her career.
WARSHAUER RETURNS TO SCORING STAGE
Senior Ella Warshauer (Santa Monica, Calif.), making her first appearance since the 2014 season, scored the game-winning goal in Brown's 1-0 win at Central Connecticut State. The tally stood as Warshauer's second career goal as she also netted the game winner in Brown's 2-0 win over Quinnipiac on Oct. 7, 2014.
LEHAN ANCHORS BACK, SCORES FIRST GOAL
Junior Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) anchors the Bears' defensive unit from her center back position. Having missed just one game for Brown over her career, she has played every minute in all 39 games in which she has appeared. Lehan entered into the offensive equation for the first time in her career vs. URI, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the team's 3-0 season-opening win.
In helping the Bears log six shutouts on the year, Lehan's teammates along the back line have included senior Sydney Calas (Bethesda, Md.), junior Katy Schmidt (Corvallis, Ore.), sophomores Nicole Phillips (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) and Megan Grant (Carlsbad, Calif.), and freshman Abby Kaplan (Potomac, Md.). Junior Sarah Cobb (North Tustin, Calif.) and freshman Terri Wilken (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) have aided the unit as a defensive midfielders.
WALDMAN ON THE WING
Junior Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.) proved dangerous on the attack in Brown's 3-0 win over URI in the opener, playing in several threatening balls from the right wing. She posted two assists against the Rams, tying a career high and pushing her career assist total to seven.
CARCHIO NETS FIRST CAREER GOAL
Freshman midfielder Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal, netting the game winner in Brown's 1-0 win over Stony Brook. She scored in the 31st minute off a header via a corner kick from junior Sarah Cobb (North Tustin, Calif.).
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Sacred Heart brings a 2-4-2 overall record into Wednesday's match-up, coming off a bye weekend. In their last weekend of play, the Pioneers defeated St. Peter's, 1-0, on Sept. 9 and fell to Columbia, 1-0 (2OT), on Sept. 11. Melanie DaSilva leads the team with two goals while Nicole Sambuco has played every minute in net, registering a 1.39 GAA.
Dartmouth carries a 5-2-0 overall mark into the week with a tilt at Vermont set for Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. prior to its entanglement with Brown. In its most recent outing, the Big Green topped Albany, 3-1, on Sept. 16. Charlotte Esty paces the squad offense with eight points on three goals and two assists. Casey Cousineau has proven stout in goal, recording a 0.42 GAA, .897 save percentage, and four shutouts on the year.
