
Women's Hockey Falls to No. 7/6 Clarkson, 8-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 7/6 Clarkson, 8-1, on Friday night in an ECAC contest at Meehan Auditorium. Sophomore Bridget Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) recorded a score for the Bears in the game, her fourth tally of the season.
The visitors grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opening period, getting on the board at 3:07 when the puck took a lucky bounce to Brielle Bellerive who recorded the game's first tally. Genevieve Bannon next scored an unassisted power-play goal at 5:47 to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead. Brown held Clarkson scoreless the rest of the stanza as senior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) made 12 stops in net while the Bears' defense registered nine blocked shots. The Golden Knights closed out the period 1-for-1 on power play while Brown was 0-for-1.
Clarkson (11-3-1, 7-0-0 ECAC) again capitalized on the power play, with Savannah Harmon scoring 6:26 into the second. The Bears followed with Carey and freshman Alley Rempe (Calgary, Alberta) recording solid shots on net, but Clarkson's Shea Tiley came up with the stops.
Cassidy Vinkle scored Clarkson's next two goals (10:57, 15:43) in the second to give the Golden Knights a 5-0 advantage. Loren Gabel closed out the period with a power-play score with 43.8 seconds remaining to put Clarkson up 6-0. Elvin made eight saves in the period while Tiley registered six. The Golden Knights were 2-for-3 on the power play in the second while Brown was 0-for-1.
Brown (3-7-0, 1-6-0 ECAC) scored its goal just 11 seconds into the third period when junior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) gained possession following the opening faceoff and fed it to Carey in front of the net who deflected it in for the goal.
Halfway through the closing period, the Golden Knights went up 7-1 when Kelly Mariani scored at 10:39. Rhyen McGill registered a power-play tally at 12:12 to complete the scoring for the game.
Elvin concluded the contest with 39 saves, including 19 in the third, while Tiley and Jenna Brenneman finished with nine and three saves, respectively.
Clarkson was efficient on the power play, going 4-for-6 in the game while the Bears were shutdown, 0-for-2.
The Bears return to action tomorrow (Nov. 19) against No. 4/4 St. Lawrence (12-0-1, 7-0-0 ECAC) at Meehan Auditorium for a 3:00 p.m. league contest.
