SERIES HISTORIES
Brown and Princeton have played to a deadlock in the all-time series between the two clubs with the ledger standing at 17-17-4 over 38 meetings. In 20 meetings, the Bears hold a 13-3-4 lead in the all-time series with Holy Cross. The two sides have not met since a 1-0 Brown win in 2011.
ETZEL AMONG NCAA LEADERS
Sophomore goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) ranks among the top three in the NCAA in a trio of categories – save percentage (second, 0.955), shutouts (third, eight), and goals-against average (third, 0.188). She has posted eight shutouts in 10 matches this season and has allowed just two goals in 960 minutes. Etzel leads the Ivy League in saves (42), goals allowed, goals-against average, save percentage, and shutouts. She made a career-high nine saves in Brown's 2-0 (2OT) draw at Buffalo and turned aside a penalty kick in the team's 1-0 win at Lafayette.
Her eight shutouts this year rank in third place on Brown's single-season list, and her 12 career clean sheets rank in a tie for fourth in the Bears' career record book. Last season, the Honorable Mention All-Ivy pick ranked second in the Ivy League in both total saves (75) and save percentage (83.3 percent), finishing the year with four shutouts and a 0.99 goals-against average.
TOP-TWO TEAM DEFENSE
As a team, Brown leads the nation in save percentage (0.955) and ranks second in the nation in goals-against average (0.188) and shutout percentage (0.800). The Bears' defensive unit has aided sophomore goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) with Brown's back four primarily composing junior Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.), senior Sydney Calas (Bethesda, Md.), junior Katy Schmidt (Corvallis, Ore.), and sophomore Nicole Phillips (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.). Sophomore Megan Grant (Carlsbad, Calif.), freshman Abby Kaplan (Potomac, Md.), junior Sarah Cobb (North Tustin, Calif.), and freshman Terri Wilken (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) have all contributed to the team's defensive organization.
GOULD PACES THE ATTACK
Senior Carly Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.) has scored a pair of game-winning goals for the Bears, providing the decisive tally in Brown's 3-0 win over Rhode and Island and the team's 1-0 win at Lafayette. The team captain leads Brown in points (six), goals (two), assists (two), shots (25), and shots on goal (10). A two-time All-Ivy selection, Gould has played in 58 games with 54 starts and 13 goals in her career.
LEHAN ANCHORS BACK, ENTERS OFFENSIVE EQUATION
Junior Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) anchors the Bears' defensive unit from her center back position. Having missed just one game for Brown over her career, she has played every minute in all 42 games in which she has appeared. Lehan entered into the offensive equation for the first time in her career vs. URI, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the team's 3-0 season-opening win. She tallied an assist in Brown's 1-0 victory over Dartmouth in its Ivy opener.
MAHER, CARCHIO NET FIRST CAREER GOALS
Sophomore forward Kate Maher (Seattle, Wash.) netted her first career goal in the Bears' 1-0 win over Dartmouth in their Ivy League opener, capitalizing on a rebound after junior Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) drove a header on target off a corner kick from junior Sarah Cobb (North Tustin, Calif.).
Freshman midfielder Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal, netting the game winner in Brown's 1-0 win over Stony Brook. She scored in the 31st minute off a header via a corner kick from Cobb.
WARSHAUER RETURNS TO SCORING STAGE
Senior Ella Warshauer (Santa Monica, Calif.), making her first appearance since the 2014 season, scored the game-winning goal in Brown's 1-0 win at Central Connecticut State. The tally stood as Warshauer's second career goal as she also netted the game winner in Brown's 2-0 win over Quinnipiac on Oct. 7, 2014.
WALDMAN ON THE WING
Junior Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.) has proven herself dangerous on the attack for Brown, consistently playing in threatening balls from the right wing. She posted two assists in the Bears' 3-0 win over URI, tying a career high and pushing her career assist total to seven.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Princeton carries a 9-1-1 overall record and a 1-0-1 Ivy League mark into the weekend. The Tigers rank No. 1 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll and No. 28 in the RPI in addition to receiving votes in the NSCAA national poll. Tyler Lussi ranks among national leaders in points per game (sixth, 2.2), goals per game (seventh, 0.9), shots per game (fourth, 5.2), and shots on goal per game (third, 3.0). The Crusaders picked up their lone win on Aug. 19 against Iona but have earned points with draws in each of their last two league matches at Army West Point and Navy.
