
Men's Tennis Opens Season With 5-2 Win Over William and Mary

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team opened up the 2016 dual match season with a 5-2 victory of William and Mary on Monday, Jan. 18 at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
No. 1 singles player, junior Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.), started things off for Brown with a 7-5, 6-3 win. Freshman Mladen Mitak (Zagreb, Croatia) and sophomore Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) earned victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot, respectively, with scores of 6-1, 6-3 (Mitak) and 6-4, 6-4 (Tarwid). Sophomore Jack Haworth (Corby, England) closed out the last singles' victory for the Bears in the fifth spot with a 7-6, 6-4 win.
For doubles, Garcia and Tarwid teamed up for a flight one win in their match, 6-3, while freshman Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) and senior Lucas Da Silveira (Incine Village, Nev.) won flight three doubles, 7-5.
The Bears will return to the courts and host Buffalo and Boston University on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., respectively.
