LAST WEEKEND
The Bears dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions last week, falling at Massachusetts on Thursday, Sept. 17 and at home vs. No. 24 Connecticut on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Brown freshman goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) made a season-high eight saves vs. the Minutewomen and followed with three saves against the Huskies in UConn's first visit to Stevenson Field since 1996.
PREVIOUS FIXTURES
Brown and Sacred Heart will meet for the 13th time on Wednesday with the Bears holding a 7-3-2 edge in the all-time series. Last year, the Pioneers pulled out a 2-1 win in Providence.
The Bears have played Dartmouth 40 times with the Big Green carrying a 20-18-2 lead all-time. In 2014, Brown earned a 1-1 draw with Dartmouth on a goal from Erin Katz '16 (Montgomery, Ala.) in the 89th minute. The two sides have embarked on Ivy League play against one another in every year since 2008.
AROUND THE GROUND
Four Bears have each tallied three points on the season in junior Carly Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.), freshman Amanda Lane (Paradise Valley, Ariz.), freshman Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), and sophomore Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.). Gould paces the squad with 16 shots and seven shots on goal.
In goal, Etzel has tallied a 1.00 goals-against average, 28 saves, and a .848 save percentage on the year. She ranks second in the Ivy League in total saves and stands third in the conference in save percentage.
The back four of sophomores Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Sarah Cobb (North Tustin, Calif.), freshman Megan Grant (Carlsbad, Calif.), and junior Sydney Calas (Bethesda, Md.) helped Etzel post her first collegiate shutout against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 13.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Sacred Heart brings a 3-5-0 record into the week with wins over St. Joseph's, Canisius, and Iona. Against Ivy competition, the Pioneers have lost twice – vs. Yale (4-0) and Dartmouth (6-0). Alex Mesropyan leads the team with four goals while goalie Talia Schwartz holds a 2.72 goals-against average.
Dartmouth carries a 5-1-1 overall mark into the week and will play UMass Lowell at home on Thursday prior to squaring off with the Bears. The Big Green's list of five wins includes a 3-1 victory at Northeastern. Lucielle Kozlov leads the Ivy League with nine goals and 18 points while Casey Cousineau ranks second in the Ancient Eight in both save percentage (.875) and GAA (0.53).
COMING SOON
After entertaining Dartmouth, Brown concludes a four-match home stand against Bryant University on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. before returning to Ivy play at Columbia University on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.
