RETURNING ALL-IVY
Brown returns three All-Ivy performers from a year ago in senior Charlotte Beach (New Haven, Conn.), junior Carly Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.), and sophomore Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.).
Beach earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors in both 2013 and 2014 while also gaining Second Team All-New England accolades last fall. The midfielder has played in 51 total games in her career for the Bears, including 40 starts. She started all 17 games a season ago.
Gould garnered Honorable Mention All-Ivy in 2014 after playing in all 17 games with 16 starts and notching three goals, including the game-winner against Delaware. She has appeared in 34 career games with 31 starts.
As a rookie, Lehan gained Second Team All-New England and Second Team All-Ivy laurels, playing every minute of every game for the Bears as a key member of the back line.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM
St. John's University has started the season 4-0-0, taking 1-0 wins in all four of its victories, coming against Stony Brook, Towson, Syracuse, and Colgate. Rachel Daly leads the Red Storm with five points on two goals and an assist. Goalkeepers Diana Poulin (three starts) and Katie DeVault (one start) have combined to shutout St. John's first four opponents.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS
The University of Delaware has begun the season 2-2-0 through two weekends of play. The Blue Hens beat Loyola (Md.), 2-1, and Army West Point, 2-0, over the first weekend before falling to Richmond, 4-0, and then-No. 2 Virginia, 6-1. Natalie Zelenky has paced the team with six points on three goals while Kailyn Rekos has logged every minute in goal for the Blue Hens.
LAST YEAR'S FIXTURES
Brown opened its 2014 season with the same two opponents, taking a 2-1 win at St. John's on Sept. 5 and a 2-1 win at home vs. Delaware on Sept. 7.
Mikela Waldman '18 (San Francisco, Calif.) provided the game-winner in the 88th minute against St. John's after Chloe Cross '15 netted an equalizer in the 29th minute. The Bears and Red Storm have met three times – in each of the last three seasons – with the road side claiming each contest in the series.
Against Delaware, Cross equalized in the 55th minute before Carly Gould '17 (Hampton Falls, N.H.) put the Bears ahead in the 73rd minute. The meeting stood as the first between the two schools in women's soccer.
BRUNO IN OPENERS
Brown holds a 26-13-1 all-time record in season openers with a 25-12-1 mark under 39th-year head coach Phil Pincince. The Bears have won in each of their last four campaign-opening matches.
THE CAPTAIN
Senior Sarah Moody (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) will serve as Brown's captain in 2015, based on a vote of the team's members. For her career, Moody has played in 41 games with 35 starts and started all 17 matches in 2013.
