LAST WEEKEND
Brown recorded a 1-0 win over Florida Atlantic University – which entered the contest with a 6-1-0 record – on Sunday after dropping a 2-1 decision to Providence College on Thursday night.
Senior Jillian DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I.) scored the game-winning goal against the Owls in the 12th minute, lofting a shot over the keeper from just outside the box, and freshman goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) notched her first career shutout. Against the Friars, freshman Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) netted her first career goal.
PREVIOUS FIXTURES
Brown and UMass will meet for the 20th time on Thursday with the Minutewomen holding an 11-7-1 lead in the all-time series. The Bears have won each of the last three meetings and topped UMass, 2-0, a year ago with Erin Katz '16 (Montgomery, Ala.) providing the club's first goal of the match.
UConn will make its first visit to Stevenson Field since October 3, 1996 as the two sides will clash for the 29th time. The Huskies carry a 20-6-2 edge in the all-time series into the contest. Brown last beat Connecticut in 1990 though the teams have met just three times (2004, 2007, 2014) since 1997. UConn earned a 2-0 victory in last year's match-up.
AROUND THE GROUND
Four Bears have each tallied three points on the season in junior Carly Gould (Hampton Falls, N.H.), freshman Amanda Lane (Paradise Valley, Ariz.), Story, and sophomore Mikela Waldman (San Francisco, Calif.). Gould paces the squad with 10 shots and six shots on goal.
In goal, Etzel has tallied a 1.00 goals-against average, 17 saves, and a .850 save percentage on the year. The back four of sophomores Maclaine Lehan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Sarah Cobb (North Tustin, Calif.), freshman Megan Grant (Carlsbad, Calif.), and junior Sydney Calas (Bethesda, Md.) helped Etzel keep a clean sheet against FAU.
