PRINCETON, N.J. – Freshman Riley Springman's school record in the 200 IM highlighted day one action of the 2015 Ivy League Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
The Bears find themselves in seventh place after Thursday action, but only trail fifth place Cornell by six points.
"We had a solid morning of prelims, placing a good number of swimmers and divers back for finals," said Head Coach Chris Ip. "We were a little tight this evening during finals, over swimming some of our events. We will evaluate and adjust for tomorrow's events."
Springman (Orlando, Fla.) boasted a strong 200 IM performance in the morning prelims, as he broke the school record in the event (1:48.39), a mark previously set by Conor Carlucci in 2011.
Sophomore Jonathon Schlafer (Uniontown, Ohio) advanced to the finals of the 1-meter diving event, finishing eighth overall with 220.40 points. Another sophomore, Daniel Klotz (Berlin, Conn.), earned himself an NCAA B-cut time of 20.06 in the 50 Freestyle, finishing 10th overall.
Day two from DeNunzio Pool kicks off at 11 a.m. tomorrow with the 400 IM preliminaries.
