PRINCETON, N.J. – Four Brown school records fell in day two action of the 2015 Ivy League Men's Swimming and Diving Championships held at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool on Friday.
The Bears remain in seventh place after two days of action, totaling 413 points.
"We had an exceptional day with four school records, starting off strong with a record in the 1,000 Freestyle by freshman Grant Casey," said Head Coach Chris Ip. "We have adjusted well and are now firing on all cylinders. We need a big prelim session tomorrow morning because those who make finals are performing well."
Casey (North Attleboro, Mass.) got Brown off and running by shattering the school record in the 1,000 Freestyle by over two seconds. Casey (9:08.57) overtook Peter Volosin's previous record of 9:10.91 set in 2008.
Christopher Meyers (Milwaukee, Wis.) earned himself an NCAA B-cut mark of 55.05 in the 100 Breaststroke, breaking the school record with his preliminary time of 54.75, a record previously held by Conor Carlucci since 2011.
The quartet of Alex Pascal, Meyers, Jeffrey Strausser, and Daniel Klotz nabbed another Brown record with a time of 1:28.55, breaking the mark set last season. Coming off yesterday's school record in the 200 IM, freshman Riley Springman did the same in the 400 IM, shattering the previous record held by Ryan Kikuchi since 2010. Springman's NCAA B-cut time of 3:50.87 broke the old Brown record by over thre seconds.
In diving action, Jonathon Schlafer advanced to Saturday's 3-meter finals with a seventh-place finish and 302.55 points in this morning's prelims.
The third and final day from DeNunzio Pool kicks off at 11 a.m. tomorrow with the 200 Backstroke preliminaries.
