PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Maddie Woo gave Brown University women's hockey a 1-0 lead through the first period, but Princeton University tallied the remainder of the game's goals to take a 5-1 ECAC victory on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink.
The Bears (4-13-0, 1-9-0 ECAC) controlled play in the opening stanza before the host Tigers (10-9-1, 8-6-0 ECAC) scored three goals in the second period and two goals in the third frame.
Woo (Plymouth, Minn.) recorded her fourth goal of the season for the visitors while junior Ariana Rucker (Oakton, Va.) and senior Brittany Moorehead (Clinton, N.Y.) each posted assists on the play.
Brown sophomore goaltender Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) stopped 15 shots while Princeton net-minder Alysia DaSilva turned aside 23 shots.
Woo netted the contest's first goal 16:53 into the first period, capitalizing on a rebound opportunity and fulfilling a sustained attack for the Bears. Rucker won the puck behind the goal on the play and fed it to an open Moorehead in the slot. Moorehead drove a shot on net and an alert Woo pounced on the rebound.
In the first period Brown held advantages in shots (9-3), faceoffs won (6-4), and blocked shots (10-1). Elvin kept the Tigers off the board throughout the second stanza's first half, making a post-to-post save and a kick save as part of the effort.
Jamie McDonnell tied the game at 1-1 at the 11:02 mark of the second period, deflecting home a point shot from Ali Pankowski on the power play. The Tigers took a 2-1 lead less than two minutes later as Kelsey Koelzer scored on a backhanded shot.
Princeton gained a 3-1 advantage after Molly Contini redirected a shot with just over two minutes remaining in the middle frame.
Kiersten Falck put the hosts ahead 4-1 with a shot from the top of the slot on the power play at 2:11 of the third period. Contini netted a power play goal with less than three minutes remaining in the contest to close the scoring.
The Bears captured a 27-12 edge in blocked shots.
