PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown men's crew traveled to Rochester, N.Y. for the Head of the Genesee Regatta where three Bear boats faced three Cornell crews in the open eight race.
Both teams raced the course at about 33 strokes per minute and
in a close race the Brown eight was able to pull out in the
straightaways and held on during the turns for a three second
victory over the Big Red. The Cornell Crews showed great
depth however, finishing ahead of the Brown B and C entries.
The afternoon races featured a 1,500 meter sprint race.
Brown and Cornell raced tightly around the turn in the course,
coming to the finish line bow to bow. On time, Brown finished
just 2/100ths of a second ahead. Combined with the morning
racing that gave the Brown Varsity the victory in the open eight
race.
In the open four, the Brown entry was able to pull away from the
field in the morning head race, winning by over 40 seconds and also
won the 1500 race in the afternoon.
Now the Brown crews are preparing for the Head of the Charles
Regatta, this weekend, Oct. 23-24th. The Bears have a large
entry this year with thee championship eights, a championship four
and a club eight. The Brown alumni are also entered in the
championship eight event. The club eight races at 1:14 on
Saturday afternoon, the championship four races on Sunday at 2:33
p.m. and the champ eight event starts at 2:55 p.m.
