Siena Takes Down Brown, 99-79, In Philly Hoop Group Classic

Philadelphia, PA –Junior guard Clarence Jackson scored 18
of his game high 23 points in the second half to lead Siena to a
99-79 win over Brown, snapping a three-game winning streak for the
Bears, at the Philly Hoop Group Classic at the Palestra. The loss
evens the Bears record at 4-4 on the season, while Siena moves to
4-2 overall.
Siena, the defending MAC Champions, who beat Ohio State in the
NCAA Tournament, has developed into one of the nation's top
teams, receiving votes in the latest AP national poll.
Jackson connected on 8 of 11 field goals, including 5 of 7 shots
from behind the three-point arc.
Bears' senior All-Ivy center Matt Mullery (photo right) led
Brown with 23 points, hitting 10 of 13 field goals for the
game.
The Bears, playing their fifth game in the last nine days, jumped
out to a 17-12 lead on a lay-up by senior Matt Mullery at the 14:35
mark of the first half.
Siena utilized a fast paced offense and long range outside
shooting to outscore the Bears 17-0 over the next 4:35 to take
control of the game and grab a 29-17 lead with 10:00 left in the
half on a jump shot by Kyle Downey.
The Saints built a 17 point first half lead, 46-29, on a lay-up by
Edwin Ubiles with 3:41 left in the half, before settling on a 50-38
advantage at intermission. Siena sizzled from behind the
three-point arc in the half, connecting on 5 of 7 treys
(71-percent).
Siena's biggest lead came with 4:21 left in the game,
building a 99-72 advantage.
Brown freshman Andrew McCarthy netted a career high 18 points for
Brown on impressive 9 of 12 shooting from the field. He completed
the double-double with a season high 11 rebounds. Junior Garrett Leffelman added a career best 13 points on 3 of 5 shooting from
behind the three-point arc.
Three other Siena players scored in double figures. Alex Franklin
tossed in 21 points, Ronald Moore 19 points and 111 assists, and
Kyle Downey 11 points.
Brown shot 51-percent from the field, connecting on 33 of 65 field
goals, whileThe sizzling Saints connected on 10 of 19 three-point
attempts for the game (53 percent) and 37 of 68 field goals
(54-percent).
Brown returns home on Wednesday, December 2 to face Holy Cross.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
