Robert Chilcoat, was promoted to associate head coach in April of 2023 after serving as an assistant coach for the Brown Volleyball program since 2020. During the past three seasons, Chilcoat was responsible for working with the pin attackers and blockers as well as focusing on Brown’s offense. The Bears have had tremendous success under the tutelage of Chilcoat. Brown led the Ivy League in blocks per set in 2022 (2.76) and 2021 (2.67). The Bears also led the Ivy League in hitting percentage in 2022 (.286) and 2021 (.262).
Prior to Brown, Chilcoat served as the assistant coach at the University of South Alabama from 2019-20 and as an assistant coach and associate head coach at the University of West Alabama from 2016-18.

During his time at South Alabama during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Chilcoat coached the 2020 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year alongside four All-Sun Belt selections. In 2019, he helped the team post a 20-11 overall record and 11-5 Sun Belt mark. With the Jaguars, Chilcoat acted as the technical director for pin hitters and liberos. He held responsibilities around film breakdown, scouting, player development, and recruiting. His administrative duties included camps, team operations, financial coordination, and community service.

At West Alabama from 2016-18, Chilcoat began as an assistant coach before earning a promotion to associate head coach in October 2018. In the 2018 season, he helped the Tigers tally a 22-10 overall record and 13-3 Gulf South Conference mark, while reaching the NCAA Division II tournament. With UWA, he coached one AVCA Division II All-American and eight All-GSC selections. He guided the 2017 and 2018 GSC Freshman of the Year and the 2018 GSC Setter of the Year.

As a student-athlete, Chilcoat played at Loyola University Chicago, winning back-to-back NCAA Division I national championships in 2014 and 2015 alongside an appearance in the national semifinals in 2013. A four-year Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Academic Team selection, he also won three consecutive MIVA conference titles from 2013-15.

After graduating from Loyola Chicago, Chilcoat served as a player coach at the University of Essex in 2015-16, helping the team earn promotion from Division I to the Premier League – the highest level of collegiate competition in England. Chilcoat simultaneously competed at the semi-professional level with Tendring Volleyball Club.

A 2015 graduate of Loyola Chicago, Chilcoat earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He proceeded to gain a master’s degree in organized crime, terrorism, and security from Essex in 2016.
