Katie Reifert, who served as the head women’s and men’s volleyball coach at Illinois Tech from 2014-18, enters her third season as an assistant coach with the Brown University volleyball program in 2020-21.
In 2019, Reifert helped guide Brown to its most wins (13) and first winning campaign (13-10) since 2001. The Bears came in fourth place in the Ivy standings, finishing in the top half of the league for the first time since 2014. Reifert mentored three All-Ivy selections, including Sophia Miller ’23 – the Bears’ first Ivy League Rookie of the Year since 1998 and first First Team All-Ivy choice since 2013.
In her first year with the team in 2018, Reifert helped Brown to an 11-13 overall record, marking its most wins since the 2014 season (12-14). The Bears went 7-3 in non-conference play, compiling their most non-league wins since 2008 (8-4). She coached a pair of All-Ivy performers including Sabrina Stillwell ’19 who concluded her career ranked eighth all-time at Brown with 1,027 career kills.
Reifert guided the Scarlet Hawks’ women’s program for four seasons and the men’s team for three seasons after becoming the first head coach in the history of Illinois Tech men’s volleyball.
Reifert led the Illinois Tech women’s team to back-to-back appearances in the USCAA National Championships in 2016 and 2017, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2016. She mentored five USCAA All-Americans as well as the 2017 USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year.
Prior to arriving at Illinois Tech in August of 2014, Reifert was the lead assistant coach for Loyola University Maryland women’s volleyball for the 2013 season. She assisted in recruiting, handled travel planning, aided in the coordination of team practices and film sessions, created scouting reports, and worked intensively with the team’s attackers.
As a four-year starter at middle hitter for George Washington University, Reifert collected various accolades. In her senior season, the team captain earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10, ranking second in the league in hitting percentage (.357%). She gained Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year accolades.
Reifert spent time playing professionally in Europe, competing in the Professional International Federation of Volleyball for Kuusamo Pallo-Karhut in 2012, starting at middle blocker for the Finnish Division’s first-place finisher. She then competed in Switzerland’s top league for FCL Luzern in the winter of 2014, starting at middle blocker.
Reifert graduated from George Washington in May 2011 with a degree in Geography and a minor in Geographic Information Systems.
