Dr. Sean Hendricks serves as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student-Athlete Development at Brown University, where he leads the department’s efforts to elevate the holistic growth and success of student-athletes. As a member of the Division’s Executive Leadership Team, he oversees student-athlete development, compliance, and ten varsity programs as a sport supervisor, while directing signature initiatives in academic support, leadership development, career readiness, financial wellness, community engagement, and DEI programming.
Since joining Brown in 2022, Hendricks has launched and expanded several high-impact initiatives, including the Emerging Leaders Program, Student-Athlete Career Summit, and the BrownSPARK career exploration program. He also co-created and teaches the Learning Transfer: Integrating Sports, School, and Life course. In addition, he helps lead the Assistant Coaches Forum and the Athletics Care Team. He collaborates closely with campus partners to ensure comprehensive academic, personal, and developmental support for student-athletes.
Before arriving at Brown, Hendricks served as Assistant Athletics Director for Leadership and Personal Development and Chief of Staff for the Cameron Institute for Student-Athlete Development at UC Berkeley. There, he helped establish the California Way, a first-of-its-kind student-athlete development model grounded in aspirational outcomes and supported by a robust assessment framework. As part of the Institute’s launch, he played a key role in building an ecosystem that empowered student-athletes and strengthened performance across academic, career, leadership, and life domains.
Earlier in his career, Hendricks spent 12 years at Rowan University in senior student success roles, including Assistant Vice President for Academic Support Programs, where his work contributed to nationally recognized improvements in retention, graduation, and financial wellness.
A former All-Patriot League linebacker and team captain of the Football team at Towson University, Hendricks holds a master’s degree from McDaniel College and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Rowan University. He has published 8 peer-reviewed articles, presented at 18 national conferences, and is widely recognized for creating transformational learning experiences for student-athletes and coaches.
