Dan Baaguero joined the men's soccer program as the Zisson Family Assistant Coaching Chair for Men's Soccer in May of 2015.
Balaguero comes to Brown after eight seasons as the head coach at the University of Texas at Brownsville, where he recorded an impressive 119-30-11 overall record and led the Ocelots to five Red River Athletic Conference and conference tournament championships, including this past season. A six-time RRAC Coach of the Year, Balaguero led Brownsville to four NAIA national tournament appearances, highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2014. He posted the best winning percentage in the NAIA in both 2010 (17-0-1) and 2014 (24-1), and is a former NAIA (Southwest) Regional Coach of the Year recipient. He coached seven All-Americans during his tenure at Brownsville.
Prior to Brownsville, Balaguero spent three seasons as the head coach at Virginia Intermont College, where he went 52-14-2. While at VIC, his teams captured the NAIA Region XII Championship in 2003 and 2005. The Cobras also won two Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament championships and one Appalachian Athletic Conference championship. Balaguero, the 2005 Regional (XII) Coach of the Year, directed two All-Americans during his three seasons at VIC.
Before coaching, Balaguero put together an accomplished playing career. He was a two-time NJCAA All-American and the National Junior College Athletic Association Player of the Year at Champlain College in 1996. Balaguero then played at West Virginia University, where he was named to the All-Big East Team and also a First Team Regional All-American. Additionally, he was a member of the British Colleges National Team in 1993-94. He holds an NSCAA Advanced National Coaching Diploma.
