Ed Kesell enters his sixth season at Brown as men's hockey goalie coach in 2023-24.
Kesell helped goaltender Mathieu Caron pick up Second Team All-Ivy and Third Team All-ECAC honors in 2022-23. Caron posted a .921 save percentage to rank tenth in the NCAA and a 2.48 goals against average along with two shutouts.
Kesell spent the 2004-15 seasons as goaltending coach for Babson College. Kesell helped Babson to four ECAC East Championships. Babson’s achievements during Kesell’s tenure includes two ECAC East All-Rookies (2006 and 2010), five ECAC East Goalie of the Year (2005, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016), one Division 1 All-American Player (2004), four Division II/III All-Americans (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016), and ECAC East Player of the Year, 2014, 2016. In addition, a Babson goalie was the recipient of the Joe Concannon Award (Best American born Division III Player) in 2015 and 2016 and the New England Hockey Writers’ Association Player of Year in 2014 and 2016.
Kesell spent the 2000-04 seasons as goaltending coach for Northeastern University. In 2000, Kesell coached a Hockey East All-Rookie selection while at Northeastern. Kesell also served as the goaltending coach for St. Anselm’s College and Thayer Academy.
Throughout his career, Kesell has been heavily involved in player development as a board member of Massachusetts Goaltending Development (USA Hockey). Kesell resides in Whitinsville, Mass. with his fiancée, Laura.
