Erin Variano, who served as an assistant athletic trainer at Brown from 2011-14, re-joined the Bears as an Associate Head Athletic Trainer in August 2019.
Prior to returning to Brown, Variano acted as an Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at the U.S. Naval Academy from 2015-19, primarily working with the Midshipmen’s football program. She also held secondary responsibilities with Navy’s rowing, men’s basketball, wrestling, and swimming and diving programs. While at Navy, Variano supervised the department’s athletic training interns.
Before Navy, Variano acted as the Director, Sports Medicine at Virginia Tech, working with the Hokies’ women’s basketball program. She began her first full-time position in the field as an assistant athletic trainer at Brown from 2011-14, working primarily with the Bears’ women’s basketball and field hockey programs.
A native of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Variano gained a master’s degree in Health and Human Movement from Utah State University in 2011 and a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Merrimack College – where she played on the women’s lacrosse team – in 2008.
