Anthony Paiva began his career at Brown in January 2019 as a Strength and Conditioning Coach. He completed an internship with the Brown Strength and Conditioning Department in 2018 upon completing his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Rhode Island and was hired on briefly after the completion of his internship and graduation.
Prior to Brown, Paiva worked in the private sector for five years working with a variety of populations including high school athletes of all sports, children, military personnel, and the general population. After completing his Bachelor’s at the University of Rhode Island, Paiva went on to complete his Master of Science in Exercise Science and Human Performance at Liberty University.
Currently, Paiva works with Brown baseball, softball, men’s and women's water polo, and men’s soccer. He has also worked with men's and women's swimming and diving, and club sports teams.
Paiva has worked diligently to push the field of strength & conditioning forward as a whole. He has served as the Rhode Island Assistant State Director for the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) since 2020 where he has worked to put together continuing education opportunities for professionals regionally, as well as represent Rhode Island at national professional events. He has spoken on the importance of representation and diversity within the field at local clinics, providing solutions, and has connected with professionals across the country on taking steps to build the profession.
Athletically, Paiva participated in and competed in martial arts for 10 years and achieved his Black Belt in Kuntao Jiu-Jitsu. He has competed in a number of physiques shows in college within the National Physique Committee (NPC) and currently competes in Olympic Weightlifting in the 81 kg weight class.
Paiva holds his CSCS through the NSCA, his SCCC through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), and his USAW-Level 1 through USA Weightlifting.
