Jonathan Grosse joined the Brown baseball coaching staff as the pitching coach in February of 2016.
In 2018, Brown's pitching staff finished second in the Ivy League in ERA for the second straight season, while RHP Will Tomlinson earned All-Ivy honors. Reid Anderson ’18 was drafted by the New York Yankees after the season, marking the third Brown pitcher selected in the MLB draft in as many years.Â
Brown's pitching staff ranked second in the Ivy League in earned run average in 2017, anchored by Christian Taugner ’17, who was named Second Team All-Ivy for the second straight year. Taugner was then selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2017 MLB Draft.
In his first year (2016) as the pitching coach at Brown, Grosse helped develop a pair of All-Ivy pitchers, as reliever Dante Bosnic was named to the First Team and right-hander Christian Taugner was named to the Second Team. Following the season, left-hander Austin French '16 was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2016 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
Before Brown, Grosse served as the assistant coach and camp coordinator at Furman University, a Division I member of the Southern Conference. At Furman, Grosse was the outfield and assistant pitching coach and also assisted with the hitters and coached first base. Off the field, he was in charge of scheduling, travel, campus recruiting, camps, and rental use of Latham Stadium.
Prior to Furman, Grosse spent three seasons as the top assistant at York College, where he was in charge of recruiting and the pitching staff as well as the several off-field duties such as building practice plans, weight room workouts and the team budget.Â
In three seasons as the pitching coach at York, Grosse had four pitchers reach all-conference honors, and coached a pair of Rookie of the Year pitchers as well the program’s new saves record holder. He helped the program earn its first national ranking in five seasons, doubled the win total during the first year and dropped the team’s ERA by nearly one full run.
Before York, Grosse was the head coach for the Elite Baseball 15U Team and Bayport-Blue Point Varsity Team, where he managed all aspects of the programs.
As a player at Kutztown Unviersity, Grosse went 7-1 as a junior, leading the team in starts, and started game one of the NCAA DII World Series, going eight innings with one earned run and nine strikeouts. He led the team in both innings pitched and starts as a senior.
Grosse graduated from Kutztown University in 2011 with a degree in Business Administration and went on to earn his MBA from Southern New Hampshire University.Â
