
Ahuja Breaks 5000m School Record, Women’s 4x100 Record Broken, Track and FIeld Competes at Princeton and Northeastern

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown track and field had two athletes compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton on Friday, and the rest of the team competed at the Jay Carisella Invitational at Northeastern on Saturday.
On Friday, senior Nimrit Ahuja broke the school record for the fastest 5000m time at 16:03.52. Ahuja beat her previous PR 23.33 seconds and beat Heidi Caldwell's 12-year-old record by 2.32 seconds. Ahuja placed seventh out of 22 runners in the race. Along with Ahuja's record breaker, junior Olivia Fraga finished second overall in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:07.72, putting herself at 4th all-time in school history.
On Saturday, the team of Elle Riley, Alyssa Jackson, Sammy Monks, and Anya Anderson set the fastest 4x100m time in school history. Their time of 44.24 won them the race and broke the seven-year-old school record by 1.67 seconds. Along with the Brown A team, the B team of Sarina Parks, Sydney Ruckett, Mackenzie Fulgham, and Maddelynn Brooks set the sixth fastest 4x100m time in school history at 46.36. Senior Julia Schriefer set the second fastest 1500m time in school history at 4:20.82, beating her previous PR by 0.93 seconds. Freshman Kata Clark set the 10th fastest 3000m steeplechase in school history with a time of 10:45.85 and freshman Benjy Street set the 10th fastest 3000m steeplechase in school history at 9:06.16.
WOMEN
In the 100m dash, freshman Anya Anderson finished third out of 24 sprinters with a time of 12.16, freshman Sameera Monks finished fourth with a time of 12.33, and sophomore Mackenzie Fulgham finished ninth with a time of 12.55. Anderson also raced in the 200m and finished second out of 26 sprinters with a time of 24.87. Freshman Sarina Parks finished fifth with a time of 25.35. Freshman Sydney Ruckett won the 400m with a time of 54.37 and Parks finished sixth with a time of 57.37.
Junior Elle Riley placed second in the 100m hurdle with a time of 13.95 and sophomore Maria Camposano finished sixth out of 15 runners with a time of 14.75. In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Kareema McKenzie placed third out of 12 with a time of 1:01.92 and junior Maddelynne Brooks finished fourth with a time of 1:02.95.
Along with Schriefer's 1500m third place finish, senior Emily Mrakovcic finished sixth out of 60 runners with a time of 4:27.64. In the 800m, junior Katrina Sortland placed seventh out of 44 runners with a time of 2:12.12. Freshman Megan Jasinski finished 13th with a time of 2:15.20 and sophomore Bria Benigni finished 16th with a time of 2:16.80.
Riley, Ruckett, McKenzie, and Brooks formed the Brown B team in the 4x400m race and won with a time of 3:44.91. Clark's 3000m steeplechase time won her first place. In the 5000m, sophomore Ariana Thiel-Hadjilambrinos placed fifth out of 17 runners with a time of 17:18.52 and freshman Charlotte Murphy placed seventh with a time of 17:26.84.
Senior Nene Mokonchu and sophomore Adanna Obuba finished in a six-way tie for second place in the high jump (1.60m). Freshman Joyce Olawaiye placed third in the triple jump (11.26m). Junior Naa Adua Annan placed seventh out of 20 jumpers in the long jump (5.31m), freshman Clara Fan placed eighth (5.21m), and junior Danielle Meribe placed ninth (5.16m). Sophomore Giana DeCesare placed third in the hammer throw (51.10m) and junior Jillian Leahy placed sixth out of 23 throwers (50.16m). In the javelin, junior Julia'Belle Reyfman placed fifth out of 18 throwers (38.43m).
MEN
Senior Solomon Miller finished fourth out of 36 sprinters in the 100m dash with a time of 10.83. Sophomore Trevor Wilder finished second out of 32 sprinters in the 200m with a time of 21.39 and senior Jason Estrada finished eighth with a time of 22.00. Wilder, Estrada, and freshman Sean Connell all competed in the 400m. Wilder finished second (47.14), Estrada finished (48.68), Connell finished eighth (49.03).
Miller, Wilder, Connell, and Danny Killian formed the 4x100m A team and placed second with a time of 41.34. Sophomore Cameron Walter placed sixth out of 53 runners in the 800m with a time of 1:50.30 and junior Jake Haley finished eighth with a time of 1:51.11. Freshman Duncan Frisbie-Smith placed 11th out of 78 runners in the 1500m with a time of 3:47.39. Along with Street's 5th place finish, sophomore Luke Bodden finished sixth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:39.86.
In the high jump, junior Gabriel Liem Thai finished in a three-way tie for second place (1.90m). Sophomore Link Lignell finished second in the long jump (7.03m), junior Mubaraq Aderogba finished third (6.90m), and senior Frank Monahan-Morang finished fourth (6.81m).
Junior Ethan Wordell placed second out of 21 throwers in the hammer throw (61.33m). Freshman Sebastian Hess placed third out of 28 throwers in the discus (48.71m). Sophomore James Chafouleas finished seventh in the javelin (51.88m). In the shot put, junior Karon Johnson placed third out of 20 (15.78m), freshman Sean Wilton placed fifth (15.53m), and freshman Argenis Luciano finished eighth (14.90m).
The Bears return to action next Saturday, May 9, at the New England Outdoor Championships, hosted by Stonehill College.
