PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Lucy Adams, Tom Griffin and Olivia Baptiste were recognized by Brown University at the Campus Life Awards Ceremony on Friday (May 22). Adams and Griffin were received the prestigious Joukowsky Scholar-Athlete Award and Baptiste was honored with the Alfred H. Joslin Award. The awards were presented at a ceremony and reception at the De Ciccio Family Auditorium at the Salomon Center for Teaching.
The Joukowsky Scholar-Athlete Award is given annually to the two Brown student-athletes (one male and one female), who embody the best qualities of the scholar-athlete by achieving success in both the classroom and athletic competition – a reflection of Brown's commitment to the totality of individual accomplishment.
The Alfred H. Joslin Award is given on behalf of the University by the Division of Campus Life and Student Services to a small group of seniors who have contributed in a very significant way to the quality of student life at Brown. Award winners generally demonstrate a wide breadth of involvement during their campus years as well as substantial depth in one or more areas. Through their leadership and involvement, they have not only enhanced their own liberal education but also provided services, programs and other opportunities for involvement to their peers, thus enhancing the learning environment for all students.
Adams is the first two-time All-American in Brown field hockey history and the second First Team All-American in program history. The Andover, Mass. native is also a four-time All-Northeast Region performer, becoming the first player to be named All-Region on four separate occasions and the first player to be named First Team All-Region three times.
Adams was named First Team All-Ivy three times, becoming the fourth player to be named All-Ivy four times and the third player in program history to be named First Team-All-Ivy three times. Adams wrapped up her Brown career third in program history in assists (27), tied for 11th in points (55). Her 11 assists in 2024 and 2025 are the fourth-most in a single season in program history.
As a senior, Adams was also the first Bear to be named to the NFHCA Senior Team and helped guide the Bears to their first 10-win season since 2000 and to the Ivy League Tournament for the second-straight season.
Griffin has embodied a passion for learning and a drive for excellence both inside and outside the boathouse since he set foot on Brown's campus in Fall 2022. Having started in the fourth varsity boat as a freshman to racing in the first varsity boat that finished fifth in the country as a junior, Griffin has been unrelenting in his drive to be the best at whatever he puts his mind to. Griffin''s rise to the first varsity boat in his junior year coincided with him winning the English Department's Robinson Potter Dunn Premium, which is awarded to the student in their junior year with the highest standing in courses taken in the English Department, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to excellence across the board.
After earning Empacher-IRCA Second Team All-American and Empacher-IRCA Scholar-Athlete honors as a junior, Griffin has begun his senior championship season in the stroke seat position of the first varsity boat, one of the highest responsibility roles within the squad. This coincides with him handing in his honors thesis and being accepted into Oxford University's MSt course in English and American Studies.
Baptiste will receive a Sc.B. in biomedical engineering. At Brown she centered her work on building spaces where students feel seen and connected. Guided by a belief in community care and mentorship through humor and authenticity, she has created environments where others can breathe, laugh, dance and smile.
Since her first semester at Brown, Baptiste has been a leader in BWell Health Promotion where she serves as the Brown University Relaxation Project (BURP) Coordinator for three years. In this role, she trained more than 100 student volunteers in campus-wide wellness and stress-relief initiatives. Through BWell, she also facilitated conversations on harm reduction, consent and peer support through workshops and outreach.
As president of the Black Student Union, Baptiste helped organize the ninth annual Black Convocation, the Black History Month concert and other events strengthening Black students on campus. She walked onto the Brown women's rugby team, winning three national rugby sevens championships. In the Crisco Lab, Baptiste researched implant talus replacements for ankle injuries. After Brown, she will pursue a master's at Northwestern University focused on prosthetic technologies that improve mobility and quality of life.
