Simon Hatcher '24 to Compete for Cambridge in The Boat Race 2026
4/3/2026 11:35:00 AM | Men's Crew
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Simon Hatcher '24 is set to make program history this weekend, becoming the first member of Brown men's crew to compete in The Boat Race on multiple occasions. Hatcher, who is penciled in at the bow position, will be rowing for Cambridge after helping his crew win The Boat Race against Oxford last year.Â
Overall, the Bears have had 13 members of their program compete in the prestigious race, which takes place every year along a 4.2-mile stretch of the River Thames between Putney and Mortlake in South West London. Eight of the 13 Brown athletes who have competed in this regatta have won, and the last five winners have all rowed for Cambridge between 2018 and 2025.Â
Hatcher had a decorated career with the Bears, earning IRCA Scholar-Athelete and Second Team All-Ivy honors in 2022. During that same season, Simon helped the Varsity Eight take home a bronze medal in the Grand Final at the 119th IRA Championship. In 2023, Hatcher was named the IRCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.Â
The Boat Race takes place Saturday, April 4 at 10:21 a.m. and will be aired on Overnght.com.Â
