Softball Beats Yale, 4-1, to Start Weekend Series

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Brown softball (9-13, 2-2 Ivy) picked up a 4-1 win over Yale (8-18, 2-5 Ivy) to take game one of the weekend against the Bulldogs at 5K Corral Field on Saturday (March 28).
The Bears finished with eight hits with both Maya Choksi and Cameron Zytkewicz Ray each collecting two. Four different Bears drove in a run on the day.
Macy Borowski picked up the complete game win, allowing just one run on three hits. Borowski worked around six walks, striking out seven batters.
Brown got the scoring started early as Choksi started the game with a leadoff double and moved to third on a sac bunt by Elli Thompson. A single back to the pitcher by Abby Bettencourt brought home Choksi for the first run of the game.
A Zytkewicz Ray single moved Bettencourt to third and Borowski singled to left to mae it 2-0.
In the fourth, Alyssa Villarde reached on a two-out error and moved to second on a passed ball. After a walk, Choksi singled to right to bring home Villarde, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Yale scored on a groundout after a leadoff double in the fourth but Borowski ended any threat with a strikeout.
The Bears picked up an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Maggie Foxx hit a one-out solo home run to dead center. It was Foxx's team-leading fourth home run of the season.

The Bears will close out the weekend with a doubleheader at Yale on Sunday (March 29) with first pitch set for 12:30 p.m.
