Men’s Lacrosse Drops Ivy League Opener at #11 Cornell
3/14/2026 3:39:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Brown men's lacrosse team (3-3, 0-1) dropped its Ivy League opener 18-9 at #11 Cornell (4-2, 1-0) on Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field.
"Hats off to Cornell, they absolutely capitalized on almost every Brown mistake," Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men's Lacrosse Jon Torpey said.
"Today was the tale of two halves. We really struggled early in the game with our execution and ability to generate offensive possessions and just like UNC you can't give a team with the caliber of Cornell the ball 70% of a half. The adjustments we made personnel and scheme wise in the second half allowed us to compete and execute at a much higher clip. I'm proud that our guys fought back but we should have never dug a hole that big. We will learn from this, recover and be ready to compete again on Tuesday."
Jeremy Hopsicker and Jameson Steele led the way offensively for the Bears three goals each, Steele added one assist. Four points for Steele is a career-high, Hopsicker's hat trick was the fourth of the season for the senior.
Ryan Mauer had a team-high four ground balls as he went 7-15 on face-offs.
Cornell outscored Brown 5-0 in the first quarter as it owned a 17-3 shot advantage in the frame,. Connor Foley stopped five first quarter shots.
Hopsicker got the Bears on the board to open the second quarter, the Big Red went on to end the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 12-1 lead into halftime.
Steele opened the third quarter with a goal before Cornell extended its lead to 13-2. Following the goal from the Big Red, Brown launched a 4-0 run behind goals from Steele, Hopsicker, Felix Rockefeller, and Jackson Wolfram. The run cut the Big Red's lead to 13-6 before they found the back of the net to close the third, bringing the score to 14-6 entering the final 15 minutes.
Cornell opened the fourth quarter with four-straight goals before Brown responded with three-straight goals. Baden Brown, Hopsicker, and Steele all scored in the fourth for the Bears.
Brown outscored Cornell 8-6 in the second half as the Bears outshot the Big Red 29-15. The Bears converted three man-up goals, which tied a season-high.
Brown will return home to welcome UMass Lowell on Tuesday, Mar. 17, the opening face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Fans can purchase tickets here.
