
Men’s Tennis Falls to Buffalo, Defeats Quinnipiac on Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I - The Brown men's tennis team (6-1) fell 4-3 to Buffalo (4-3) to open its Sunday doubleheader before earning a 4-0 win over Quinnipiac (0-3) on Sunday inside the Pizzitola Sports Center.
In doubles play against Buffalo, Ivan Sodan and Zander Bravo opened the match with a decisive 6-2 victory over Clement Mainguy and Theodoros Mitsakos. Theo Murphy and Elliot Wasserman followed with a strong performance of their own, earning a 6-4 win against Michael Malkin and Minjae Kim. Lukas Phimvongsa and Cole Oberg's match against Emiliano Jorquera Faiz Nasyam match was abandoned due to doubles being played until decision.
In singles action, Sodan set the tone with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Mainguy. Phimvonesa pushed Mitsakos to a tight first-set tiebreak but ultimately fell 7-6 (4), 6-4. Bravo was topped by Onder Balci, 6-3, 6-4, while Minjae Kim edged out Wasserman in a close contest, 6-4, 7-6 (5). Robert Yang added a strong result with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over E. Jorquera, and Alex Koong fell to Nasyam 5-7, 3-6.
The Bears opened their match against Quinnipiac with Sodan and Bravo setting the tone early in doubles action with a 6-2 win over Carlos Braun Simo and Alessandro Sciacca. Quinnipiac answered with a 6-1 result from Finn Burridge and Elias Hoxha against Wasserman and Murphy, but the Bears closed doubles on a high note as Phimvongsa and Oberg earned a 6-2 victory over Prithvi Sudhakar and Csanad Nyaradi.
In singles action, Sodan opened with a strong 6-3, 6-4 win over Simo. Yang delivered a win over Sciacca 6-1, 6-0. Rounding out the sweep, Murphy earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Carl Sjoholm.
The Bears will return to action next weekend when they travel to Princeton, N.J. to participate in the ECAC Championships from Feb. 13-15.
