Women's Hockey Beats St. Lawrence, 3-2, to Clinch Home Ice Playoff Game
2/6/2026 8:58:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey (15-10-2, 11-6-2 ECAC) took down St. Lawrence (11-17-3, 8-10-1), 3-2 inside Meehan Auditorium on Friday (Feb. 6).
With the win, the Bears clinched home ice for their first playoff game. Brown also recorded its 15th overall and 11th ECAC win, both are the most by the Bears since the 2005-06 season.
"I'm proud of the relentlessness we showed to win and hold onto pucks," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "The team showed a clear understanding of the level of competing necessary this time of year. I saw an ability to rise to the occasion from all over the lineup."
Three Bears picked up goals with both Margot Norehad and Monique Lyons scoring their 13th goals of the season. Isabella Gratzl scored her sixth goal of the year. Both Lyons and Gratzl added assists for two-point nights.
Rory Edwards finished the night with 36 saves to earn the win.
St. Lawrence struck first with a goal at 14:29 in the first but the Bears quickly responded. After winning the puck in the corner, Sam Broz found India McDadi out front. McDadi sent the puck on net and Norehad deflected the puck past Kassidy Lawrence (32 saves) to tie the game.
The game stayed tied for most of the second period until Brown started to control the puck in the St. Lawrence zone. Gratzl's shot was blocked and went to the corner. Ava DeCoste collected the puck and passed to Lyons at the inside of the near circle. Lyons' one-timer beat Lawrence and the Bears had a 2-1 lead.
Less than four minutes later the Bears struck again after controlling the puck. Brown's possession featured multiple shots and after Jade Iginla's from right in front was kicked away, the puck ended on Gratzl's stick and the first year sent it over the shoulder of Lawrence to make it 3-1.
St. Lawrence pulled within one at 12:03 in the third and skated with an extra attacker for the last 2:15 but Edwards made multiple saves and the Bears were able to clear the puck late and wind down the clock for the win.
GAME NOTES
Brown will close out its home regular season schedule with a contest against Clarkson beginning at 3 p.m. The Bears will be hosting Senior Night after the game against the Golden Knights.
