Men’s Basketball Drops Hard-Fought Battle at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Brown men's basketball team (1-8) fell 56-53 in a hard-fought battle at Harvard (14-9, 7-2) inside Lavietes Pavilion on Friday evening.
Landon Lewis scored a team-high 17 points 8-14 shooting from the floor. The Los Angeles, Calif. native also accumulated six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Isaiah Langham also added 10 points while Malcolm Wrisby-Jefferson contributed with seven points, four rebounds, one assist, and five steals.
The Bears outscored the Crimson 34-22 inside the paint and 13-11 on second chance points. Brown's bench outscored Harvard's 18-4.
With the game tied at 12 with 11:13 remaining in the first half, the Crimson launched a 12-0 run to take a 24-12 lead. Harvard led by as much as 13 in the opening half and took a 31-22 lead into halftime. Lewis and Langham combined for 14 of Brown's 22 first half points, Lewis shot 4-7 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Bears opened the second half on a 7-0 run, cutting the Crimson's lead to 31-29. Harvard then responded with a 10-4 run of its own, pushing its advantage up to 41-33 with 14:27 remaining.
With 8:18 remaining, the Crimson led 50-40, Brown mounted a 6-2 spurt to cut Harvard's lead to 54-48 highlighted by a basket by Lewis with 3:15 to go.
With the Bears trailing 54-50, Wrisby-Jefferson hit a three-pointer with 4.6 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to one. After the Crimson hit two free throws on the ensuing possession, Langham failed to convert on the potential game-tying three-point attempt as time expired.
The Bears shot 12-24 from the floor in the second half and outscored the Crimson 31-25.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 14 when they travel to Dartmouth, tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Leede Arena.
