NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown women's basketball team (9-4, 1-0 Ivy) opened up Ivy League play with an 88-72 win over the Yale Bulldogs (4-10, 0-1 Ivy) on Monday evening.
For the second game straight, five Bears posted double-figures in their win over Yale: Alyssa Moreland (23), Grace Arnolie (21), Olivia Young (13), Ada Anamekwe (11), and Isabella Wesley (10).
Moreland led the Bears in scoring with a season-high 23 points. She shot 10-15 from the field and grabbed 13 rebounds. Moreland's performance marks her 10th double-double of her career, and fifth of this season.
Arnolie posted 21 points, seven assists and four rebounds. Arnolie's 21 points marks the 18th 20-point game of her career. She has also posted double-figures in all 10 games that she has competed in this season.
Anamekwe clocked 25 minutes of playing time in tonight's contest, the most this season since her return from injury on Nov. 19. She shot 5-8 from the field, grabbed six rebounds, and posted three steals.
Wesley set new career-highs with 10 points, three field goals made, and three free-throws made.
The Bulldogs got on the board first with a jumpshot from Luisa Vydrova. Young countered with a three-pointer to get the Bears' scoring started. Scoring alternated for the majority of the first quarter until Yale began to pull away toward the end of the quarter. The Bulldogs led 25-19 after the first 10 minutes.
The Bears put up 22 points in the second quarter to tie the score up at 41 heading into the break. A made free-throw from Anamekwe is what pushed the Bears to 41 points.
Brown came out of the break with a 6-0 run, which was cut short by a basket from Yale's Marisa Chapman. Halfway through the quarter, the Bulldogs tied up the score once more at 51. By the last two minutes, the Bears were able to create a six-point gap between them and the Bulldogs.
The Bears scored a game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter to secure their first Ivy win of the season.
Brown's 88 points are the most scored against a DI opponent since the Bears' 89-85 win over Holy Cross in 2018.
