PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown sailing team began the new year with its first-ever Rose Bowl win. The 24-team event was hosted by the University of Southern California from Jan. 3-4 in Long Beach, Calif.
The Bears had four of their California-local sailors compete in the event over winter break. Juniors Blake Behrens and Vera Allen won the A-division with a total of 20 points in six races, including two first place finishes. First-years Noah Stapleton and Dominic Ciccimaro won the B-division with 22 total points, with two race wins as well.Â
First place came down to the last race against rival Boston College, with Brown ultimately coming out on top. The Bears have competed in the Rose Bowl a few times in the past, with their first win coming this past weekend.
The Rose Bowl is considered the premiere ICSA winter event, and last event on the fall schedule.
The Bears' spring season begins on Saturday, Feb. 28.Â
