
Aderogba, Volkova Highlight Bears at Harvard Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - The Brown track and field programs were back in action this weekend in Boston at the Harvard Invitational. The two-day meet had the men's competition on Friday (January 30) and the women's competition on Saturday (January 31).
Two Bears won their respective events, while two others finished second.
WOMEN
In the open shot put final, freshman Angela Volkova prevailed as the winner of 45 throwers, throwing 12.93 meters. Joining Volkova on the podium was sophomore Lydia Kentis, who placed third with a 12.64-meter throw.
Senior Nene Mokonchu placed second in the high jump at 1.70 meters. Junior Danielle Meribe also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.58-meters.
In the mile, junior Julia Soderbury finished seventh out of 75 runners, running a 5:07.67 mile. Sophomore Eve Siff-Scherr finished 19th overall at a time of 5:19.30, and junior Scarlet Stimson placed 27th overall with a time of 5:24.32.
In the 1000-meter race, freshman Kata Clark placed seventh overall out of 42 runners with a time of 3:03.13. Sophomore Bria Benigni finished 16th overall with a time of 3:07.52.
Freshman Sarina Parks placed eighth overall out of 59 runners in the 400-meter race with a time of 59:50. Parks also ran in the 200 and finished 23rd overall out of 88 runners with a time of 26:13. Freshman Anya Anderson ran a 7.81-second 60m dash to place 17th overall out of 64 runners and sophomore Mackenzie Fulgham placed 21st with a time of 7.88.
Four Bears finished in the top-20 in the 3000m race. Out of 56 runners, junior Veronica Ambrosionek placed ninth with a time of 10:20.01. Senior Olivia Bergin placed 13th with a time of 10:29.41, sophomore Sanam Rangaraj finished 15th with a time of 10:39.74, and junior Caroline McCool placed 20th in 10:52.57.
MEN
Junior Mubaraq Aderogba was the winner of the long jump invite, leaping 7.01 meters. Junior Gabriel Liem Thai also had a podium finish, placing third overall out of 17 participants in the open pole vault. Freshman Argenis Luciano placed sixth out of 31 throwers with a 14.59m toss in the shot put.
Senior Jason Estrada ran a 49.66 in the 400m, placing him fifth out of 54 runners. Sophomore Kit Jackson also placed ninth overall out of 54 runners in the 3000m with a time of 8:44.14.
Freshman Danny Killian placed seventh overall out of 80 sprinters in the 200m with a time of 22.23. Sophomore Vanson Vu finished 16th with a time of 22.62 and freshman Filippos Georgantas finished 29th in 22.85.
Junior Matt Wing placed third overall out of 49 runners in the 800m with a time of 1:55.95. Freshman Will Smitas placed 11th overall out of 59 runners in the mile with a time of 4:22.34.
The Bears will head back to Boston for the third time this season for the IC4A/ECAC Championships next Saturday, February 7.
