Women's Hockey Skates to a 0-0 Tie at Dartmouth
1/10/2026 6:22:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
HANOVER, N.H.. – Brown women's hockey (11-8-2, 7-5-2 ECAC) skated to a 0-0 tie against Dartmouth (4-13-3, 2-7-3 ECAC) at Thompson Arena on Saturday night (Jan. 10).
Brown was in control for most of the game with 4-19 shots advantage. Margot Norehad led Brown in shots on goal with six. Rory Edwards earned the shutout in net for Brown with 19 saves. It was Edwards second shutout of the season and fourth of her career.
"Over the course of tow games, the team controlled the puck and sustained offensive zone time but simply did not finish," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "The outcome is disappointing given how well we are playing and knowing how close everyone is in the standings. With this team, a tie feels a bit more like a loss. We are anxious to be healthy and to get back after it at home next weekend."
The Bears outshot the Big Green 17-3 in the first period but it was Dartmouth who looked to break the tie late in the period. With just under three minutes left, Shae Messner charged on goal and her shot was deflected by Edwards but the puck found its way into the net. After review, it was determined Messner committed goalie interference and the goal was taken off the board, keeping the game 0-0.
Brown against controlled the puck in the second, finishing with a 13-6 advantage in shots but Michaela Hesová, who finished the night with 40 saves kept the Bears.
Edwards faced the most trouble in the final period but managed to keep the puck out of the net and send the game to overtime.
In the extra period, Edwards was tested a few times but the junior stopped each Big Green chance. Brown's best chance in overtime was with just over a minute left as Ava DeCoste broke free and was one-on-one with Hesová but the Dartmouth goaltender made the save to keep the Bears off the board. Brown had a few more chances with the time winding down but could not get the game-winning goal past the Big Green's netminder.
The shootout went six rounds with Dartmouth earning the 1-0 win after a goal and a save on Ava DeCoste.
GAME NOTES
Brown returns home for a weekend against Cornell (Jan. 16) and Colgate (Jan. 17).
